The judge in Robert Blake's murder case on Friday dismissed the lone conspiracy charge against the actor's handyman Earle Caldwell, saying there was nothing more than speculative evidence against him.
The judge, however, did allow the murder charge to stand against Blake, who was ordered to trial on Feb. 9.
“I cannot find a strong suspicion,” Superior Court Judge Darlene Schempp said of the case against Caldwell. “I think the evidence here is so speculative it carries very little weight. I simply don't find there is probable cause.” Outside the Van Nuys courthouse, as the hearing was under way, a person was shot and the courthouse was locked down. The Blake hearing was in session when the shooting occurred on a public walkway. Los Angeles police spokesman Officer James Chong said an attorney was shot by his client and a male suspect was taken into custody by police immediately after the shooting.

LOS ANGELES (CNN) A Los Angeles judge Thursday ruled that actor Robert Blake will face trial in the slaying of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, saying he "had the motive and the opportunity" to carry out the crime. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash issued his ruling after two weeks of testimony in a preliminary hearing in which three witnesses testified Blake had approached them to "pop," "snuff out," or "dispose" of his pregnant wife. Nash set bail at $1.5 million, just moments after expressing doubt that he could set bail in such a case. "I'm ordering that Mr. Blake be confined to one residence, he have electronic monitoring, and that he surrender any passport he may have, and he is not to leave the residence," Nash told the court.

s one of the most curious and significant figures in the history od English literature, Blake is renown as a poet, mystic , painter and engraver. With these talents he influenced both literature and graphic arts. His mystical abilities appeared in childhood when he began experiencing visions of angels and spiritual monks, later on these visions included the Angel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, and other historical figures. It might be thought, as so often happens, that his parents would have discouraged him from these thoughts, but they did not.
His parents and relatives were of humble people. Although Blake is a common Irish name, the family's ancestry is dubious. Later the poet W. B. Yeats , an ardent devotee of Blake and editor of his literary works, would have it believed that Blake came directly from Irish ancestry, but this is contradicted by Martin J. Blake in his genealogical work, Blake Family Records
Blake, born in London, spent most of his life there. Since his parents knew of his early visions they offered to help him to become a painter. Blake was attracted to the position but generously pointer out that such an apprenticeship would be costly, and such an expense would not be fair to his other brothers and sisters, since his father's income as a hosier was not a large one. He entered the apprenticeship as an engraver, not just that the training was less expensive, but also because the profession was likely to yield a faster return.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) Actor Robert Blake left jail for the first time in nearly a year after posting a $1.5 million bail bond Friday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said bond was posted for Blake at 9:26 a.m. [12:26 p.m. EST], but he wasn't released until 4:35 p.m. [7:35 p.m. EST]. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash set bail for Blake on Thursday, after ruling the actor must stand trial in the shooting death of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. While on bail, Blake must surrender his passport, stay in one residence and be monitored with an electronic device, Nash said. Blake, 69, the star of the 1970s TV series "Baretta," is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Bakley, 44, who was shot in the head May 4, 2001 as she sat in their car outside a restaurant in Studio City where they had just eaten.

Thelma Gutierrez: Robert Blake released from hospital
CNN Correspondent Thelma Gutierrez has been in Los Angeles covering the investigation into the murder of the wife of actor Robert Blake. Q: What is the latest with Blake? GUTIERREZ: He ended up coming home from a medical facility because he has problems with high blood pressure and he was very distraught. His 11-month-old daughter Rose is being cared for by a relative. There was a search warrant that was issued last night about 5. Q: Did police remove anything from Blake's home? GUTIERREZ: They removed things from his house but we can't tell you for certain what it is that they removed. His attorney says that the police were in Blake's home for eight hours. The attorney, Harland Braun, said that "they were looking for anything that showed that she had trouble with anyone from the past, including Mr. Blake." Q: What do we know about Braun's background?

Friday May 11, 2001 Extra Exclusive: Was Robert Blake's Marriage Legal?
As the “Baretta” star remains in seclusion, “Extra” has uncovered another dark secret from Bonny Bakley's mysterious past; a husband no one knew about until now.
Bonny Bakley's third husband is Joseph Brooksher. They were married in November of 1992, back when she called herself Bonny Lee Lewis. We managed to track down Joe Brooksher in rural Frankford, Missouri.
Brooksher doesn't exactly have fond memories of his marriage to Bonny. They met through the mail and got hitched in Memphis about six months later. Joe claims that was the last he saw of her. He says, “I didn't even see her after that. She left in the night, I didn't see her no more.”
Abandoned on his wedding night, Brooksher claims he was even sent to prison for four years because Bonny wrote bad checks in his name. And Joe’s sad saga doesn't end there. According to Tennessee court documents obtained exclusively by “Extra,” Brooksher and Bonny may have never officially divorced. She apparently didn't follow through with it.

Blake behind bars after arrest in wife's slaying
Blake being led into police headquarters in Los Angeles Thursday. LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) Robert Blake remained behind bars Friday after Los Angeles police said investigators found "compelling and significant" evidence implicating the actor in the shooting death of his wife last May. Police arrested Blake at his home in the gated community of Hidden Hills on Thursday evening, saying they had evidence he shot and killed his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, 44, outside a North Hollywood restaurant. The 68-year-old actor was transferred to the jail's hospital section Friday morning, but authorities and Blake's attorneys said the move is a common security and safety consideration for high-profile inmates and that he does not need medical care. Guards check the 10- by 10-foot cell, the same one that once held actor Robert Downey Jr., every 15 minutes through a small window in the door, but LAPD Cmdr. Gary J. Brennan insisted that Blake is not on suicide watch.

Robert Blake: I'll be acquitted
Blake says he is in "infantry mode," passing his time in a "cement wilderness." LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) In a jailhouse interview, Robert Blake expressed confidence he will be acquitted on charges he murdered his wife, and he vowed to return someday to the acting profession. In a 30-minute, off-camera interview Saturday with CNN's Larry King at the Los Angeles County Jail, the 68-year-old actor his hair now gray said he has faced worse conditions on location and in some of his dressing rooms during his decades-long Hollywood career. Blake told King he was in "infantry mode" and that, despite facing murder and conspiracy charges, "My glass is three-quarters full." He said his time in what he termed a "cement wilderness" is a passing phase.
