Beethoven, Ludwig van
getauft 17. Dez. 1770 in Bonn
† 26. März 1827 in Wien Der Komponist und Pianist Ludwig van Beethoven wurde am 17. Dezember 1770 in Bonn getauft. März 1827 in Wien. Bühnenwerke

    The Classical Period
    Ludwig van Beethoven
Born: Bonn, (baptized December 17), 1770
    Died: Vienna, March 26, 1827
Born to a drunkard father and an unhappy mother, the young Beethoven was subjected to a brutal training in music at the hands of his father, who hoped that the boy would prove to be another prodigy like Mozart . Failing in this, the young Beethoven nevertheless embraced music and studied for a short time in 1792 with Franz Joseph Haydn in Vienna . Hailed as a genius and a master of improvisation at the piano, Beethoven soon made a name for himself, and by 1794 was known throughout Europe. He faithfully learned the Classical Viennese styles and traditions in music, and then proceeded throughout his career to completely revolutionize them. His earliest compositions reflect the classical restraint of Haydn and Mozart, yet there were always flashes of what was to come. The emotion he displayed while playing his own music was unheard of in his day, and the fiery intensity of his early Piano Sonata in C minor , known as the "Pathetique" is one of the first works in which Beethoven gives vent to his own dramatic musical voice.

Heiligenstadt Testament, due to his considerated suicide. (In a project by Matt Boynick the letter is in both in German and in a English translation - click here to read it. In 1803 his first and second symphony is performed. Beethoven visiting Paris considers leaving Vieanna permanently. May 1804 Napoleon crowns himself Emperor in Rome. Beethoven who had admired Napoleon as a symbol of the Enlightment destroys his dedications in his third symphony, Sinfonia Buonaparte and it is today known as Eroica. In 1805 his first and only completed(?) opera, Fidelio, is performed without success. In 1806 his nephew Karl is born and Beethoven is later, in 1816, to become appointed legal guardian of Karl, but is in 1819 ordered to give up his guardianship. In the years between 1810-12 possibly wishes on getting married - friendship with Bettina Brentano von Armin and her brother, Franz, and brothers wife Antonie Brentano (probably the immortal beloved). He abandon hopes of getting married in 1812. Until his dead in Vienna, the 26th of March 1827, Beethoven continues to compose the greatest masterpieces in human history. For an extended overview of Beethoven musical career, samples of Beethoven's music and in general a very interesting site, please do Matt Boynick the honour of paying a visit. (

    Welcome to the Unheard Beethoven!
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, composer to ever live. Most people are familiar with a few of his works, if nothing more than the beginning of the Fifth Symphony, the Finale of the Ninth Symphony and the "Moonlight" Sonata. Beethoven of course wrote a great deal more than those well-known works; one catalog of his compositions runs to 849 separate items. While several hundred of these works have been recorded on one medium or another, there still remain literally hundreds of other works which have never been recorded at all, or which have never been published in widely available editions or in some cases, never published at all! There are thus hundreds of Beethoven works which, until now, have been available only to scholars and specialists. This website endeavors to make all of Beethoven's unrecorded music readily accessible to the public. Now YOU may judge for yourself as to whether these pieces deserve a wider hearing and the ability to join the repertoire. These never-before-heard works are now available to anyone with a computer, a modem and a soundcard, in the form of MIDI files. Our rule of thumb has been that if a work has been recorded and is readily available, we will not produce a MIDI file, concentrating instead on the works which are not otherwise available. At present, over twelve hours of Beethoven's music is available on this website and in no other listenable format.

there are moments when I feel that
    speech is nothing after all.

Ludwig van Beethoven Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 17, 1770 in Bonn, in the Rhineland of Germany. He lived in Vienna from 1792 until his death. Beethoven's Father and Grandfather were court musicians. Ludwig carried on the family tradition in exemplary form, becoming one of history's greatest composers. Beethoven's dynamic musical style infused his compositions with his confidence in human action. Again and again dissonance and turmoil are resolved with enthusiasm and rejoicing. Fate is trampled by triumphant music. Turbulence in his personal life, including his becoming incurably deaf at 29, tested his optimism. He surmounted his difficulties through a rigorous regime of composition. In his later career his music was even more free and imaginative. On his deathbed Beethoven was planning a tenth symphony, a composer to the very end. Despite his notoriously brusque manner, Beethoven was revered by Viennese society as its greatest celebrity. His funeral was attended by 20,000 friends and admirers. If you are aware of books, movies, databases, web sites or other information sources about
