, actress and comedienne. Ball entertained audiences for over forty years in her more than fifty movies. "I Love Lucy," in which she starred with husband Desi Arnaz, was one of the most popular television comedies of all time, running from 1951 to 1957 and still in syndication. Though her persona on the show was that of zany housewife, she was in real life a shrewd businesswoman.

Name: Lucille Ball (original burial location) Categories: Actors and Entertainers Women of Note Burial Location: Forest Lawn (Hollywood Hills), Los Angeles, California, USA. Mike's Notes: From her death in 1989 until sometime in 2002, Lucille Ball was buried in this rather insignificant wall niche. However, in 2002 (well after my visit to her California gravesite), her daughter had her remains moved to Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown, New York. Apparently, they had to wait until Ball's last husband, Gary Morton, died to move her to New York. I have not yet visited the new gravesite. Nor am I certain if this marker is still present in Los Angeles.

Lucille Ball biography
Biography of Lucille Ball who remains one of the most loved comedians of all time. A millionaire at the time of her death, Lucy was also the first woman to ever run a multimillion dollar corporation.
Lucille Ball was born August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. Setting her mind on becoming an actress early, she left high school at age 15, and with her mother's blessing, enrolled in John Murray Anderson Drama School in New York City. Though she auditioned repeatedly, Ball was told she had no talent, and was never accepted to the school. With no experience behind her and very few acting roles for women available, Ball took a job as a model, using the name Diane Belmont. Moderately successful, Ball became an Earl Carrol showgirl and began modeling for popular fashion designer, Hattie Carnegie. Carnegie chose Ball to be the Chesterfield Cigarette Girl in 1933. The position won her national exposure for the first time, and caught the attention of Hollywood. Lucille Ball's first role was an appearance in Eddie Cantor's musical, "Roman Scandals" in 1933. Ball continued to audition for movies, and caught bit parts in low budget feature films like, "Blood Money" in 1933 and "Kid Millions" the following year. The success of her first roles would lead to bigger and better parts. Ball would appear in over 60 films by the late 1940s, including feature films starring Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers and Bob Hope.

When someone says the name “Lucille Ball”, most people automatically think of the zany, red-haired beauty that performed brilliant comedy on the 1950’s sitcom, I Love Lucy . What many people don’t realize, however, is that behind the comic talent was a strong, independent, and complex woman who came from humble beginnings, overcame challenging obstacles, and reined as Hollywood’s “Queen of the B Movies” before she became a household name.
Lucille Desiree Ball was born in Celeron, New York on August 6, 1911. Her father died when she was only three, which required her mother to work long hours to support the family. As a take-charge youngster, Lucy took it upon herself to take on odd jobs to help bring in some extra money for the family—the oddest of these jobs being a “seeing-eye guide” for a blind soap peddler. Lucy learned to be independent from a young age and did not to rely on others to meet her needs. This trait grew strong in her and carried through into her adulthood. Lucy left for New York City’s John Murray Anderson Drama School when she was 15. Although her love for acting and performing was deep within her, she felt outshined by the other glamour girls enrolled in the school, especially the star pupil—a brunette beauty named Bette Davis. This caused Lucy to become shy and unconfident in her drama classes, and her instructors were continually frustrated with her. Eventually the school sent her home and encouraged her to look into another career field, because she didn’t have “what it took” to make it as an actress. Following her failure in drama school, she decided to try a career in modeling. She modeled under the name of Diane Belmont and was quite successful in this career field. In 1933 she became nationally recognized as the Chesterfield Cigarette Girl. But her love for acting never left her.

78. Lucille Ball: Biography
A biography on the life and times of lucille ball, who is best known as Lucy Ricardo on the successful fifties television series. lucille ball biography.
http://www.allsands.com/History/People/lucilleball_uqf_gn.htm
Lucille Ball: biography
The world famous comedic actress, Lucille Ball, was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She knew she wanted to be an actress from the time she was very young, so her mother sent her to acting school. Unfortunately, she was kicked out, being told she had no acting talent whatsoever. Despite this crushing information, though, Lucille did not give up her dream of becoming an actress, a dream that was eventually realized—-she proved the acting school wrong. Lucille moved to Hollywood in her late teens to break into movies. Her first part was in the Ziegfield Follies. Then in 1940, Lucille starred in a movie called “Too Many Girls” and her costar was Cuban actor Desi Arnaz. The two fell in love and eloped in November of that year. They later starred in many movies together, two of which are “The Long, Long Trailer” and “Forever Darling.” bodyOffer(2719) Lucille and Desi, who had both been signed under the RKO production company, ran into trouble when it went out of business. They quickly recovered from this downfall by buying the RKO studio lot, and renaming it “Desilu”. Many shows were filmed at Desilu Studios, including “The Andy Griffith Show”, starring Andy Griffith and Ronny Howard. Lucille starred in the 1950’s television sitcom, “I Love Lucy” (a Desilu production) with her husband, Desi Arnaz. She played a wacky housewife who was constantly getting into trouble, and Desi played her husband, Ricky Ricardo, the Cuban bandleader. The series was based in New York City. The Ricardos' best friends and landlords, Fred and Ethel Mertz, were played by William Frawley and Vivian Vance. Vivian Vance later went on to play opposite Lucille in “The Lucy Show”. Lucy Ricardo eventually had a baby, becoming the first women to be portrayed as pregnant on television. “Little Ricky” was played by Keith Tibodeux.
