WOMEN FROM CANADA'S PAST All the following women are featured in Her Story: Women from Canada's Past. MARIE JACQUELIN DE LA TOUR (1602 - 1645) When Marie married Charles La Tour in 1640, she was swept up into a French civil war over the control of Acadia in the New World. She returned to France to plead her husband's case in court, then defied the King of France and rejoined her husband in Acadia with ships she obtained in Boston. In 1645, Marie valiantly but unsuccessfully defended Fort La Tour from enemy attack. She mysteriously died in enemy hands three weeks later. Suggested reading:

THANADELTHUR (1697 - 1717) A member of the Chipewyan First Nation, Thanadelthur was captured by the Crees and forced into slavery as a young woman. She escaped from the Crees and made her way to York Factory, a Hudson's Bay trading post. On behalf of the Hudson's Bay Company she made a long and dangerous journey through the "Barren Lands" and negotiated a peace treaty between the Chipewyans and the Cree. After the sudden death of this courageous and intelligent woman, the Hudson's Bay post governor wrote "I am almost ready to break my heart." Suggested reading:

Randolph County, Missouri ~ May 1941, Fannie L. Cave Situated 12 miles South of Moberly on the Moberly Harrisburg Road. Information: From old minute book in the possession or Kelley McCuen, also some information from Arthur Bradley, whose parents were among the early members, and from Mrs. C. L. Willis of Moberly, Mo., who is a member of the present day church.
The first "Church of Christ" was organized in 1859, by Elder John McCuen and Elder White. The first church building was built on the north side of the cross road. The new church, built in 1905, was on the South side or the same cross road. This same church was burned and totally destroyed Feb. 22, 1941.
The first church organization grew and harmony, for the most part prevailed until in the early days or 1900. Some of the older members believed that as everything had progressed, the church should change its name to "Progressive Church of Christ". This was not to be thought of by the original members, who said the name was taken from the Bible, and they believed there was only one "Church of Christ". The Progressives wanted to have instrumental music in the church and this was not to be considered by those or the early church.
The controversy caused a rift and a division among the members ensued. The progressives still continued to worship in the old building, and called their organization "The Christian Church".

http://www.fmoran.com/flynt.html
Flynt Family
The Flynt family of Stokes and Forsyth Counties traces its ancestry to the 16th century in Ayton , Berwickshire, Scotland. The immigrant ancestor was probably a Richard Flynt, who was in Lancaster Co. VA by about 1640. We have found discrepancies and inconsistencies in the accounts of the Virginia family, no doubt at least partly attributable to the repeated use of Richard and John as given names, with some resulting confusions. Can anyone provide us with a definitive, well-documented history? We begin our account with the Richard Flynt who came to Surry/Stokes Co. NC about 1786, and died about 1792. His birthdate is sometimes given as 1720, sometimes as 1733; the latter date would preclude his being the father of the oldest of his presumptive children. Richard's wife's name was Ann, but was she Ann Perry, daughter of John Perry and Susanna Stanford of Westmoreland Co. VA? Or Ann Fountain? Or both? If Richard is really the father of children whose birthdates range from 1748 to 1780, as reported in some histories, then there were probably two wives, as this child-bearing span is very long for one woman. We are listing the possible children here with two mothers, but we would like confirmation or correction of this assumption.
First Generation
Children of Richard Flynt and Ann Perry (?)

Werner Family
First Generation
Johann Adam Werner was born before 1707 in Germany. He married Maria Catharina Sigler in Germany, and their older children's births are recorded in the Evangelische Kirchbuch of Massenbach, Schwaigern, Wuerttemburg, Germany. They immigrated in September, 1732, on the Johnson of London.
Second Generation
Children of Johann Adam and Catharina Werner Note: some of their descendants adopted the spelling VARNER, others remained WERNER or WARNER. In the third and subsequent generations we have used what appears to be the prevalent spelling for each family. Maria Elisabeta Werner (b. 1726, died young)

Emanuel Lasker In fact Emanuel's parents were so worried that he was devoting too much time to chess and not enough to his school work that they told Berthold to find another school for Emanuel. However, the head of this new school was president of the local chess club and the mathematics master was the local chess champion, so in his new secondary school Emanuel continued to show remarkable talents at both mathematics and at chess. In 1888 he obtained his arbitur in Landsberg an der Warthe, now a Polish town named Gorzow Wielkopolski. The young master will be a formidable opponent in future contests. Although he failed to win the tournament at Amsterdam shortly afterwards, Hoffer reinforced his opinion:- Young Lasker only confirmed the opinion we expressed about him when we watched him in Breslau. He is only years of age, but possesses already the qualities of a first-class master - erudition, judgement of position, quickness of conception, imagination, great enthusiasm for the game, and above all, he is a man of culture and more than average intelligence.
