Introduction
This web site was created to act as a guide to the Stick Style, an important but relatively rare style in American Victorian architecture dating from 1860-1890. Elements of the style began to appear on buildings in the 1850s and early 1860s but most construction in this style occurred in the 1870s particularly after the national economy recovered from the financial panic of 1873. Architectural pattern books were the source for many houses in this style but all practicing architects of the day designed and built houses in the Stick Style including big name designers such as H.H. Richardson and Richard Morris Hunt. Samuel H. Cook House

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES
Champ Clark (1850-1921) was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1892. He was defeated in 1894, reelected in 1896, and served until 1921. During his tenure, he was twice elected minority leader, 1907-1909 and 1919-1921 and, from 1911 to 1919, he served as Speaker of the House. Clark was a candidate for the 1912 Democratic presidential nomination, losing to Woodrow Wilson on the eighty-fourth ballot at the national convention. Clark was a supporter of tariff reform and advocated isolationism and creation of a volunteer army prior to and during World War I. Genevieve Bennett (1856-1937) married Champ Clark in 1881 and played an active role in the political careers of both her husband and her son. She also promoted such causes as women's suffrage and progressive labor legislation.

Branch One- Henry Rowley, Planter of Plymouth
Known Descendants
Henry Rowley was probably born in England. There are a number of conflicting claims as to his origin, but documentation has not been forthcoming. He was first found in the opening chapter of the Plymouth Colony Court Records, when he was taxed. There are a number of references to him as he participated in various tasks in the colony. His was one of the first marriages recorded, when he was re-married to Anne Elsdon, 17 October 1633. He was one of the first to greet the Rev. John Lothrop, when he first arrived in Scituate after being released from the Tower of London. Lothrop's diary leads one to believe that Henry Rowley was part of his congregation when Archbishop Laud's men arrested many at Blackfriars in London. If so, that may explain why we are unable to determine in what manner he arrived at Plymouth. Perhaps he was spirited away in the dark of the night and smuggled aboard a vessel without being recorded as being there. This chart is presented, listing descendants from various sources. There may be, and very probably are, errors in this list. Please do us, and everyone who makes use of this, a big favor by notifying me at rowley@wmn.net of any inaccuracies you spot.
