Malcolm's comments on the OHS Convention Triumphant Grand Opening!! OHS in Boston Imagine this. A church packed to the rafters with mostly organists from
around the country. An organ in a stunning case fills the west gallery of the
church. The chairs that fill the nave have all been turned around so we can
sit and gaze up into the balcony. A priest steps forward to the railing and
says simply this: "Good evening. I'm Fr. Thomas Carroll, rector of this
church," this simple announcement followed by what can only be described as
tumultuous applause, shouting, and a standing ovation! Do this on a regular
basis, and seminaries will be overflowing with candidates for the priesthood,
but of course, there is a special tale to tell about this visceral reaction,
and Fr. Tom Carroll, organist and OHS member, is the deserving symbol of a
happy ending to a horror story. It was in 1986 that we learned, from not only the organ journals but from the mainstream media, that from within, a movement was afoot in this parish, actively trying in haste, before it could be discovered, to destroy all that was beautiful in the place. There were

DRUMMER TWP CEMETERY AT GIBSON CITY, IL
When we stroll along the well-kept walks in the beautiful Drummer Twp Cemetery, we can think back into the past as we read the names on the markers and tombstones. The original cemetery for this community in the early days was on the northwest corner of the Andrew Jordan farm, section 24 in what is now Drummer Twp. Mr. Jordan is considered to be the earliest settler in the township, having settled on this farm in 185-. The original plat of the village of Gibson was laid out in the early part of 1871 by Mr. J.B. Lott, who purchased 240 acres on this site in 1869. In 1874 Mr. Lott deeded 10 acres of the highest ground to Drummer Twp for a burying ground and an association was formed to provide regulations for the cemetery. Three trustees, elected at the town meetings, have charge of the cemetery business affairs.
The original cemetery was plotted within a circular drive around the hill. Soldiers' Circle occupies the place of honor at the top of the hill. In the center of Soldier's Circle, Lott Post No. 70 G.A.R. placed a large cannon and a Parrott gun, with a number of shells which they obtained from the United States government Fortress Monroe, and a flag-pole beside the cannon. This was dedicated to the soldier dead at a ceremony on Memorial Day of 1898. The first burial in the cemetery was that of Mrs. Mary S. Bowker, wife of a pioneer farmer, who died Jan. 8, 1876. The second was that of G.W. Slack

OAS_AD('Top'); Coal Hill Cemetery Westville, Franklin County, New York DIRECTIONS: This cemetery is located at the intersection of County Route 19 and the Coal Hill Road. It is on the east side of the road. NOTES:
  • This cemetery has been transcribed at least five times.
    1) The first transcription was by Elizabeth Coleman, Adirondack Chapter D.A. R. who visited the cemetery in 1931. A copy of her work was located at the Saranac Lake Free Library in Saranac Lake, New York.
    3) The third transcriber was Mrs. Roy Avery of Syracuse, New York who transcribed the cemetery on May 26, 1971.
    4) Virginia A. Wolfe completed her work in 1983. It appears that she used Elizabeth Coleman's work as a reference. Their work is very similar.
Upon completion, my transcription was compared to all previous transcriptions. Discrepancies were resolved by re-checking the cemetery stones.
The oldest burial appears to be that of Joanna, Wife of Silas TOWN, who died June 10, 1836 Age 81 Y'rs.
