The names in this alphabetical list are represented by archival collections at the given locations in North America. No attempt is made to indicate where papers or letters by one person may also be located in the collection of another. Such cross references are often given in the collection descriptions in the indicated sources. Some mathematicians have been included for whom there are no known collections of papers. They are here only as reminders of the inevitable incompleteness of the historical record. Still there may be a possibility of filling in such gaps sometime. Corrections and additions to the list are welcomed; please see How to Provide Further Information for the List of Collections . The key to the abbreviations is given at the end. Excerpts from front page article of The Register-News, Mt Vernon, IL, Thurs 27 Sep 2001 issue The 165 yr old Atkinson Cemetery, off Campground Road, recently had serious vandalism; 16 stones damaged; 9 broken in half, the rest knocked off their platform. The headstones were made from Tennessee white stone which makes them difficult to replace. Atkinson Cemetery official Percy ATKINSON said three of the headstones belonged to members of his family - his great-great grandfather James who donated the land for the cemetery, his great-great grandfather's wife Winney, and their son's tombstone. We called this, the oldest section of the cemetery, section 1.... the cemetery doesn't. Some of the earliest burials were not recorded in any book and were kept in the head of one of the cemeteries founders. Therefore some of the people buried in this area do not have office records. The plots in this section are as big as 20 feet by 20 feet with 10 foot aisles... so rows 1 and 2 are probably parts of the same family plot. We read the rows south to north as most of the headstones faced east... the cemetery plots numbers run east and west. This area is well kept and green all year round with large trees. It is bordered by State St and Cemetery Road and is the SW corner of the Cemetery. This is an extraction... we proofread to prevent errors but errors are still present. If you would like better documentation or have material that disagrees with this record contact me at: 3rd St. Books, 1615 3rd St. Marysville WA

The cemetery is located just south of the southwest corner of Lowell St and Murray Ridge Rd. It is uncertain just when this plot of ground was first used as a burial place. The olderst date on a stone is that of David G. Cochrane who died in 1835 at age 21. On March 9, 1844 the Elyria Twp Trustees paid $50.00 to Benjamin and Anna Baker for 1 acre of land for a cemetery. This included the old burying ground. For burial information contact: North Murray Ridge Cemetery, 328 Broad St, Elyria OH 44035,
