    Historical Note
    Davis, an American geographer and geologist, was a world authority on physical geography, a creator of the science of geomorphology, and called the father of physiography. He taught geology at Harvard University (1876-1912), traveled throughout the world, founded the Harvard Travelers Club and the Association of American Geographers, and also contributed to the fields of astronomy and meteorology.

    First Generation: Nicholas Vieillar. Born, 1635, in Otterberg, Germany. In 1654 he moved on the Gersweiler Hof (road) near Erlenbach (between Bornberg and Morleutern). They resided in Erlenbach where he was a surgeon and supposedly affiliated with the Kaiser while he resided at his nearby summer residence. After Jakob's death in 1717, Maria emigrated to American with her son, Johan Peter, in 1744, along with Johan Peter's wife, Magdalena Maria. They arrived in 1744 aboard the Friendship in Philadelphia and resided near Thurmont, Maryland near the Graceham Moravian Church. Children of Jakob Wilgar Vieillar and Maria Elisabeth Cordier

    First Generation
    Jacob Ried was born in 1735, son of Johann Georg Ried and Magdalena Eichorn of Landensteinbach, Baden Durlach, Germany, and came with his parents to Broad Bay, Maine, in 1752. He married Elisabeth Barbara Rominger (1741-1829) in Broad Bay about 1760, and came with her to North Carolina in December 1770. He died in 1819. The name becomes Reed or Reid in some families. We have left it as Ried throughout this page.

    Henry Kidd of Caroline and Fluvanna Cos. Virginia Tilman Winfield Scott "Windy" Beal Thomas Beal ... Thomas Henry and Nancy Hill Kidd Henry Kidd moved to Fluvanna Co. Virginia from Caroline Co. Virginia around 1790. His purchase 400 acres from James and Fanny Cole. This land was by the Cunningham Creek near the fork of the James River. Land once owned by Aaron Kidd of Albemarle Co. Virginia Henry Kidd was a miller. He also owner a traven or "House of Private Entertainment" in May 1822; He was granted a license to sell "ardent spirits" at the Tavern. To receive a license a man had to be of good character. Some of Henry's descendants are still living in Fluvanna Co. today. One cousin mentioned that he was related to everyone in Fluvanna, so he had to leave home to find a bride. This was in 1980.
