HALL OF FAME
THE TEACHING AND PREACHING OF THE SCOTS WORTHIES
It may cast new light on the character of these men of God to select from a few of them a sample of what they preached and taught. It is common to pick out from their discourses passages in which the preacher says strong things in reference to times and circumstances, but let it not be forgotten that these are incidental, and do not convey a fair impression of the real style of their preaching. They preached "Christ crucified" and they preached his cross and his crown wherever they went.
(From "Scots Worthies" edited by Andrew A. Bonar)
Many of the Covenanters were imprisoned on Bass Rock - see it here . More here...
Andrew Gray (1634 - 1656) was born and lived in the glorious era of the Puritans. He died, of "Purple Fever" after just two years of ministering the Word to his people in the High Outer Kirk, of Glasgow. Read his life, his works and his praises - by many eminent people, like Robert Traill.
William Guthrie (1620 - 1665) ministered in the remote village of Fenwick, South-West of Glasgow. He is famous for "Christian's Great Interest" which John Owen carried everywhere.

Spiritwalk Library Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.net Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of FREE electronic books (eBooks or eTexts). It intends to put as many books on-line as possible and to gather these on line works into one central location. It is a terrific service of the University of Illinois.
Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia

    http://www.mountzion.org/fgb/Spring93/FgbSP5-93.html
Prayer—Fervent, Persistent, Expectant Daniel Shanks It is certainly not without personal conviction this article is penned; for if ever there was one pointed out and disqualified from writing a piece on “prayer” — my name would surely surface. There are plenty of regrets in my life concerning a neglect of this holy ordinance. How many of our heads must hang with shame as we reflect upon past years of sinfully shirking our responsibilities in this most blessed means of grace? Definite prayer, though, is a must. It is a must if we would have our labours attended upon by the Spirit of God. It is a must if we would walk and commune with the living God. It is a must in daily deliverance from indwelling sin, from the enticements of the world, and the assaults of our adversary — “Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation” (Mark 14:38). Prayerlessness in the life will surely give rise to spiritual defeat and decline in the soul. Any attempt to justify its neglect is vain and foolish: “I don't know how to pray; I don't have time; my work is so demanding; my body is constantly in pain; God is a sovereign God, etc.” Many excuses fill our mouths for avoiding the throne of grace; yet even the best is nonetheless worthless. They're all lies. Honesty demands a true confession; and when you `shell down the corn,' what do we find? — pride lurking, deep-seated unbelief, and a cold heart of indifference. (Again, personal experience is the qualification claimed for setting such forth.) These are the real culprits; aren't they?
