So Many Have Already Helped
In So Many Ways!
Kudos to . . .
Robert Bruner , a Boy Scout working on his Eagle, recently organized a drive for video movies and audio books, and through his drive and diligence, collected over 500 video movies, and 100 auido books. What a great addition to our collections! Thanks, Robert!! We recently received a donation of $5,000 which was designated to pay the clerks on the Circulation Desk a really big boost in our funds! Thanks so much!! Glenn Galloway and his helper, Larry Futerfas have put in yoeman service in creation of our new library shelving from Hockaday. They have to be disassembled there, trucked over to our site, and reassembled here quite a job! And that is not to mention that all the books where they are going have to be temporarily moved, the old shelving taken out, and then the books reshelved on the new shelves. But what a difference the make!! Thanks, guys!! Terry Davenport is providing the funding for four brand-new permanent bookshelves, which will be used in the present location, and then transferred to our future permanent location, when it is built. Also for the wonderful children's table and four colorful chairs! Thanks, Terry!
Dan Lovejoy and his daughter Terry Davenport who donated money for a few months of telephone service at the UP Public Library. We're now connected to the outside world! Our phone number at the UP Public Library is 214-363-9095.

The information below relating to Carmarthen [with the village of Abergwilly and neighbourhoods] was extracted by Gareth Hicks with the kind permission of the publishers from the CD of the same title as the main heading. For more books from Archive CD Books see their web page Carmarthen [with the village of Abergwilly and neighbourhoods] Carmarthen, styled the 'County of the Borough of Carmarthen', is 217 miles w. from London (by Brecon), 106 w. from Bristol (by Brecon), and 112 (by Neath and Swansea), 83 w. by s. from Hereford, 116 s.w. from Worcester, and between 8 and 9 from the sea. This ancient town is situated nearly in the centre of its county, and on the northern bank of the Towy- a river long celebrated for its salmon, and other fisheries. It was formerly surrounded by a high wall, with fortified gates; and the castle, still an interesting ruin, rises in baronial pomp above the town; it surrendered in the civil wars to the parliamentary forces, under General Langhorne, and has subsequently been suffered to go to decay. Carmarthen is governed by a mayor, recorder, town clerk, six peers (who act as justices), and two sheriffs, all of whom are elected annually by the burgesses. The great sessions for the county are held twice in the year, the quarter sessions alternately here and at Llandilo, and a mayor's court for the town and borough once a fortnight. The mayor for the time being is lord of the manor of the town. In conjunction with Llanelly, the borough returns one member to parliament, which privilege was conferred in the reign of Henry VIII.

RECALL OLD ARMY DAYS : Fortieth Reunion of Men of 15 th Regiment. Observe Anniversary of Balls Bluff. Gen. J. W. Kimball Reelected President. Contributed by Charlene Olexiewicz , descendant of Church Howe The 40 th annual reunion of the 15 th regiment, Massachusetts volunteers, was in Worcester yesterday. The reunions are usually Oct. 21, the anniversary of the battle of Balls Bluff, near Leesburg, Va., in which the regiment lost 310 men, but the 21 st falling on Sunday this year the reunion was advanced to the day previous. The steady rainfall did not keep the veterans at home, and members of the regiment were present in large numbers, and beside the routine business, the splendid dinner and the speechmaking, swapped reminiscences and fought some of the old battles over again. At 10:30 a.m., the veterans assembled at the board of trade rooms, Foster street, for a business session. Gen. John W. KIMBALL, president of the regimental association, not having arrived from Fitchburg, comrade W. G. WATERS, Santa Barbara, Cal., was called to the chair amid rousing cheers. He opened the meeting by a few introductory remarks, and the minutes of the meeting of a year ago were read by Secretary Edward A. RICE, Worcester. A committee on nominations was appointed, consisting of the following:

o. 19. Clear Soup
Ingredients: Stock meat, water, a bunch of herbs (thyme, parsley, chervil, bay leaf, basil, marjoram), three carrots, three turnips, three onions, three cloves stuck in the onions, one blade of mace. Cut up three pounds of stock meat small and put it in a stock pot with two quarts of cold water, three carrots, and three turnips cut up, three onions with a clove stuck in each one, a bunch of herbs and a blade of mace. Let it come to the boil and then draw it off, at once skim off all the scum, and keep it gently simmering, and occasionally add two or three tablespoonsful of cold water. Let it simmer all day, and then strain it through a fine cloth. Some of the liquor in which a calf's head has been cooked, or even a calf's foot, will greatly improve a clear soup. The stock should never be allowed to boil as long as the meat and vegetables are in the stock pot.
