Swedes in Washington State
- Washington och dess svenska befolkning

In 1908 Swedish writer Ernst Skarstedt published, in Swedish, a new volume in his series of books about the Swedes in the Northwest. He had previously published works on the Swedes in Oregon and California. Now the turn had come to Washington State. In his books he usually first tells the story of the area, and presents the various cities and towns, and also charitable institutions, founded by Swedes. Then he concludes the book with biographies, and sometimes photos also, of the more prominent Swedes in the area. This does not imply that he lists every Swede, but a good number of them. The Washington book lists around 800 Swedes, who lived in the state around 1908. The biographical information varies, sometimes it is very detailed (you get to know if the man was a republican or a democrat), and sometimes very sparse. Ingrid Nilsson of Trelleborg has entered every person into a genealogy program, from which the following list is excerpted. Every person in the list has a birth date in the format YYYYMMDD, a place of birth, and also a reference number (109:?). To search for places, use the search facility of your web browser.

Famous artists who came to paint Bermuda
From North America and Europe, they liked the bright light and pastel colors
By Keith Archibald Forbes at e-mail exclusively for Bermuda Online
Introduction
Bermuda's art history is rich. A major reason is because when the USA and Great Britain were not the firm allies they are now, Bermuda underwent some profound changes. Many areas were denuded of foliage and developed into military fortifications. The military artists sent to Bermuda during the 1800's by the British Army or Royal Navy to paint vivid scenes of Bermuda as it went through these changes. They included Joseph Blackburn, Thomas Driver, E. G. Hallewell, Flag Captain Sir Michael Seymour and Lieutenant General Gaspard Le Merchant Tupper (one of whose many Bermuda works is "The Admiral Going to Sea"). Royal Navy Dockyard, Bermuda, May 1847 One of the paintings by Captain Sir Michael Seymour, RN. This one shows the Dockyard from Commissioner's House, including prison hulks on the left.

The Parker Newsletter No. 77
1 April 2000
Dear Cousins: When is The Parker Newsletter published? 1. When we have enough queries to warrant publication. (2) When the editor has time to put it together. Criterion 1 was established early. Criterion 2 was not. Some dear Faulkner cousins sent me their family files, and I put their information into the database. I added 906 individuals to the Faulkner database. But I am a Faulkner and you may not be, so here is what we have this week on the Parkers. And despite the date, this is no April Fool. C. O. December 1868, Term Marie Louise Perrin and Trautman Perrin , her husband, Plaintiffs, v. The United States Defendants. On Demurrer
Claimant seeks compensation for property destroyed by the bombardment and burning of San Juan, or Greytown, by the United States ship of war Cyane , on the 13th of July, 1854. At the time of the bombardment the claimant was a French subject; has since become naturalized; at the time of bringing her suit in the Court of Claims is a citizen of the United States. I. One who takes up a residence in a foreign place and there suffers injury to his property by reason of belligerent acts committed against that place by another foreign nation, must abide the chances of the country in which he chose to reside; and his only claim, if any, is a personal one against the government of that country. II. One who was a French subject at the time of the loss complained of, but who has since become a citizen of the United States, cannot maintain an action against the government for property destroyed by the United States in the bombardment of Greytown. The claim is political, to be settled by the executive branch of the government with the government of Nicaragua. The distinction between this case and (1 C. Cls. R., p.41) and

In 1776 Ben Franklin declared that there were 160,000 white people in the Province of Pennsylvania, about 1/3 were German.
In 1811, the village of Colebrookdale, or Boyers, was in need of a church. The synod of Reading established a "meeting point", naming Rev. Frederick Herman, pastor at Falkner Swamp and at Pottstown, the first service was attended by 57 people. By the end of 1811 the Reformed Church of Colebrookdale was established. It wasn't until 1834 the church was called the Reformed Church of Boyertown. The church records prior to 1852 (above) may be either at Falkner Swamp or Lancaster.

BIOGRAPHY
Sophia McIlvaine Bledsoe, editor, author, and the eldest child of Albert Taylor and Harriet (Coxe) Bledsoe, was born March 26, 1837 in Gambier, Ohio. Though largely self-taught, she received her early education in a boarding school conducted by her aunt, Margaret Coxe. After the age of eleven she grew up in academic communities, her father being a mathematics professor first at the University of Mississippi and later at the University of Virginia. In June 1860 she married Reverend James Burton Herrick and moved to his mission parish in New York City. In 1868, unable to accept her husband's social views, which were leading him to the Oneida Community, Sophia assumed the responsibility of supporting their three children. She joined her father in Baltimore, first heading his girls' school (1868-1872), then serving as associate editor of
