The Arques school, in Sausalito, California, is a small organization dedicated to teaching the art of traditional wooden boatbuilding.
Classes
What makes the Arques School so unusual is it's size and focus. The core Apprenticeship Program has only up to six students at any one time. It is a year long program where students learn the important essentials of design, lofting, timber harvesting, bronze casting, and all aspects of traditional tool use and boat building. A less intensive Small Boat Class is held on Saturdays for local students. Other short classes including Wood Milling Japanese Woodworking and Celestial Navigation are held periodically.
Apprentices learn and gain experience working on any of the several boats that may be under construction at the school. Current projects include Eleanor , a 20ft sloop designed at the school, A Kingston Lobster Boat replica, and a 29ft ' Harbor Tug ' Read More...
The Arques Guild
The school closely supports an organization of graduate apprentices who build new boats and restore historical boats to the same high standards taught at the school. - The guild is solely licensed to build Black Cat and Eleanor designs.
Visitors are welcome between 12pm and 1pm - Tuesday through Saturday.

Historical and Philosophical Aspects of
Lapa'au Traditional Kanaka Maoli Healing Practices Kekuni Blaisdell, M.D.
Honolulu, Hawai'i Richard Kekuni Akana Blaisdell is a professor of medicine at the University of Hawai'i, in Honolulu and is a co-founder of E Ola Mau, an organization of Hawaiian health professionals. His research interests include the spleen and blood disorders, the history of medicine, Polynesian medicine and Hawaiian health. He is also on the board of Ke Ola Mamo, convenor of the Pro-Hawaiian Sovereignty Working Group and coordinator of Ka Pakaukau, a group of twelve organizations seeking independence
Historically, traditional kanaka maoli lapa'au (Hawaiian medicine) may be considered in three periods: (1) the pre-Western over 1 500-year era, beginning with the arrival of the first Polynesians from South Oceania who settled in Hawai'i about 100 A.D., until the 1778 chance-arrival of the first European explorers. (2) The period of Western contact with the introduction of European-American and Asian diseases and ways, cultural conflict, subsequent 1893 illegal U.S. armed invasion and 1898 U.S. forced annexation of Hawai'i. (3) The modern period of further de-Hawaiianization and coercive, Western assimilation up to the 1985 E Ola Mau Native Hawaiian Health Needs Study Report re-awakening interest in, and support for, lapa'au. *1

Quick menu , for those who don't want to read the introductory comments (again). I prefer the most rigorous classicism, so if you're looking for something else, this isn't the place. These lists represent varying degrees of depth, with regard to the number of examples given and the distinctions made; the level will become clear from the texts themselves. Here are the topics, some contain sub-lists, others don't: Appendix on how to buy the recordings mentioned in this list List of recently modified files When I first wrote these lists as purely text documents in 1991, with the exception of some Indian music, there were precisely zero other resources available. That had a definite impact on the level of detail I chose, and while there is some incentive to add material of a more technical nature in subsidiary documents, I have not done so yet. Experts are not likely to find my discussions informative, except perhaps with regard to the existence of particular recordings. My goal was and is to attempt to convey some sense of what I personally enjoy about the music, and ultimately to entice people to make their own judgements from live or recorded music rather than getting too deeply involved in text. • As anyone who visited his site regularly knows, Barry Taylor was not able to maintain his site. When Barry asked me if I wanted to take over his site I could not say no. Barry was not only the person who inspired me to learn about midi, but his site was among the first traditional music midi sites on the web - and his music is incredible. Barry's music has spread throughout the net and I felt it would be shameful for the original to be lost. So I am housing most of Barry's site here.

Traditional or Classical Chinese Feng Shui is the scientific approach to creating a balanced environment. It is where reason and common sense prevail.
    http://www.traditionalfengshui.com/
Traditional or Classical Chinese Feng Shui is the scientific approach to creating a balanced environment. It is where reason and common sense prevail. Where following proven methodologies designs warm and supportive homes or businesses. Properly applied, Feng Shui uses only the five elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water to create harmony and balance. Traditional Feng Shui uses a Lo P'an (Chinese compass) since that is the only way to accurately define which of the above elements are needed to bring about the balance within a building. Further, traditional Feng Shui addresses all four of the aspects of Feng Shui; Building, Environment, People, and most importantly, Time It incorporates the practices of what today is called "Form School", "Compass School", and "Bau Gua School" into what the ancients had only one term: Feng Shui. Feng Shui is an all encompassing environmental study. Traditional Feng Shui is not, and does not use, mysticism, magic, religion, superstition and does not promote "Specialty Feng Shui Products." The number one goal of Feng Shui is to help people live and work in confortable and supportive environments. In doing so, Feng Shui can assist in improving health, relationships and finances.
