(Undated, appears to be approximately 1909) PREFACE In presenting this history to the members of the McCurdy race, I do so with the firm belief that every detail given herein is perfectly true, which covers a period of more than 500 years. This has been the result of over ten years investigation by various family members of the McCurdy family, and brings to light many branches of the family, that otherwise could never have been discovered.
Those who have been engaged in making these investigations were persons of honor, intelligent and trustworthy, and their names are given elsewhere in this work.
Beyond a few unavoidable omissions, this work is complete, as regard the descendants of Pethric and his wife, Margaret (Stewart) McCurdy, to whom this work is dedicated.

Unknown Romance Novelists
This is part of the A Celebration of Women Writers , but I have few clues about these women. They are the authors of novels I have from 1850s-1940s, or were taken from lists in old novels or catalogs. The Romance and Mystery writers of today are their literary grand-daughters. One of them is the great-grandmother of a friend - after her husband died, his family refused to help her, so she supported and educated her six children by writing. If you have any information about authors, please let me know : titles, birth or death dates, biographical information. If you have books by authors I haven't listed, I would welcome that too. Eventually the novels will be analysed for what they reflect about the women who wrote and read them, but for now I'm just collecting them. Also see:

If I had to give a definition of capitalism I would say: the process whereby American girls turn into American women. Christopher Hampton Savages , scene 16 The American language is in a state of flux based on the survival of the unfittest. Cyril Connolly The Sunday Times The thing that impresses me most about America is the way parents obey their children. Edward VIII , Duke of Windsor To Americans, English manners are far more frightening than none at all. Randall Jarrell Pictures from an Institution That land is like an eagle whose young gaze
Feeds on the noontide beam, whose golden plume
Floats moveless on the storm, and in the blaze
Of sunrise gleams when earth is wrapped in gloom;

Rich nations to emit more greenhouse gases, says U.N.
The predicted increase comes despite international efforts to tackle greenhouse gas emissions, and experts said nations needed to do more.
"These findings clearly demonstrate that stronger and more creative policies will be needed," said Joke Waller-Hunt, executive secretary of the U.N. climate change convention.
She said countries should increase development of climate-friendly technologies and persuade businesses, local governments, and citizens of the need to cut emissions of energy-related gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2).
The United States, the world's biggest air polluter, has refused to ratify the 1997 U.N. Kyoto Protocol seeking to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the developed world by 2012 to 5.2 percent below 1990 levels.
Scientists say greenhouse gases could cause global warming, resulting in more destructive weather and rising oceans.
The report said the most industrialized countries of Western Europe, North America, and Japan were likely to see their greenhouse emissions rise by 17 percent from 2000 to 2010.
The nations of central and eastern Europe would likely see increases after a 37 percent tail-off in the 1990s. That fall, largely due to the Soviet Union's economic collapse, enabled developed countries as a whole to register a 3 percent drop in emissions from 1990 to 2000.

This is a Jurassic Classic! Smoooookkkkinnnnnnn! I've got a lot of BBQ books, maybe 40 or 50, and I would have to say this one has moved to the top of my list! Its got it all over the others. This book has "the vibe" its got soul, funk, rock and roll and some of the best damn barbecue recipes you'll ever come across. I'll have to settle for having to recreate the recipes as I am nowhere near this juke joint (but I am putting it on my BBQ Mecca list!)but just flipping thru the pages of this gaw-jus book I get a feeling like I can hear the music, smell the 'que and meet the characters that inhabit this place. About these listings:
Please do not contact us to have your name added to any of these listings. Articles that are posted on the LowellAlumni.org website are a strict re-posting of content from a previous alumni newsletter. It was never our intention to create or maintain a fully comprehensive and complete listing of alumni in these professions.
The Lowell Alumni Association strives to reconnect our graduates through alumni events and to support the further development of our alma mater for a new generation of students. Home Lowell Alumni Newsletter > Alumni Listing : Medicine Medicine - The Noble Profession
by Paul Lucey (Spring 2000 edition) This article is a tribute to Lowell graduates who chose careers in the medical profession. We honor Lowell's first doctor, a graduate of the Pioneer Class of 1859 and a surgeon in the Union Army. We also salute our Nobel Laureate in Medicine, Class of 1892. Sadly, we honor the memory of Dr. Kim Fang '69, who gave his life last January defending his home and family. Among our 800+ honorees are some remarkable stories: Woman doctor, Editor of The Lowell, Stanford/Northwestern, Pediatrician, Medical Director, while raising 5 children; tennis star, Stanford, Internal Medicine/Psychiatry, Clinical Professor, organized medical programs in Third World and Eastern European countries; the Pediatrician who delivers her classmates' babies; and the eminent ophthalmologist whose twin sons were AAA All-City, 1st Team, football halfbacks.
