Robert E. Thomas received his Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition from Rutgers University, where he studied with Charles Wuorinen. He is a graduate of Boston University's School for the Arts (Mus.M.), where he received a Director's Award, and of Western Washington University (B.Mus.). He is currently an Adjunct Instructor at Raritan Valley Community College, where he teaches computer music and has recently revised the course content and outlines for the school's computer music curriculum. He is also interested in layered musical structures and microtonal music. Indeed, his dissertation is a discussion of composition with layered structures, and he has written on the application of Just Intonation in contemporary composition. Dr. Thomas has long entertained a fascination with Russian folk and twentieth-century music (in particular the musics of Shostakovich and Schnittke), which began with a concert of Russian folk music he attended as a child. He also has an abiding interest in Russian and Ukrainian literature, especially the work of Gogol and Bulgakov. He has visited Ukraine twice, where he was able to experience folk music, art, and dance first hand. He also works as a music copyist and is the music director of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Rahway, New Jersey.

85. The Thomas Crown Affair
Summary and review of the film.
http://www.haro-online.com/movies/thomas_crown.html
The Thomas Crown Affair Rene Russo has made a career of starring opposite some of Hollywood's most powerful men. Kevin Coster ( Tin Cup ), Clint Eastwood ( In The Line of Fire ), John Travolta and Danny Devito ( Get Shorty ) and Robert De Niro (the upcoming Rocky and Bullwinkle ) are just a few. This time out, in The Thomas Crown Affair , she can arguably eclipse her male co-star, Pierce Brosnan ( The World is Not Enough , Mrs. Doubtfire ). This is a new version of the 1968 film starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, the latter of who makes an appearance in the new film. This is also the second time this summer where a film plot involves a thief and a woman who is after him and who may or may not also be a thief. The first time was in Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and it wasn't that good. This remake isn't much better. Thomas Crown (Brosnan) is your typical Bruce Wayne type rich boy. He owns a large, multi-million dollar company, and seems to have nothing to do but idle around. He collects fine pieces of art, and by golly, he is an art thief. Crown organizes a heist as a cover for him to steal a Monet that he tried to obtain through legitimate means a while ago. Katherine Banning (Russo) works for an insurance firm, and is sent in to help the police department recover the painting. Working with Banning is Detective Michael McCann (Denis Leary

Add to a Notebook Dylan Thomas Dylan Thomas was born in Wales in 1914. He was a neurotic, sickly child who shied away from school and preferred reading on his own; he read all of D. H. Lawrence 's poetry, impressed by Lawrence's descriptions of a vivid natural world. Fascinated by language, he excelled in English and reading, but neglected other subjects and dropped out of school at sixteen. His first book, Eighteen Poems , was published to great acclaim when he was twenty. Thomas did not sympathize with T. S. Eliot and W. H. Auden 's thematic concerns with social and intellectual issues, and his writing, with its intense lyricism and highly charged emotion, has more in common with the Romantic tradition. Thomas first visited America in January 1950, at the age of thirty-five. His reading tours of the United States, which did much to popularize the poetry reading as new medium for the art, are famous and notorious, for Thomas was the archetypal Romantic poet of the popular American imagination: he was flamboyantly theatrical, a heavy drinker, engaged in roaring disputes in public, and read his work aloud with tremendous depth of feeling. He became a legendary figure, both for his work and the boisterousness of his life. Tragically, he died from alcoholism at the age of 39 after a particularly long drinking bout in New York City in 1953. This bio was last updated on May 9, 2000.

Abstract : The purpose of this study was to determine whether elderly individuals would demonstrate differences in quality of movement when completing a water-pouring task under different levels of perceived risk (i.e., pouring hot water vs. pouring cold water during beverage preparation). Fifty individuals over the age of 65 (M=72.1 years, SD=6.3) participated in the repeated measures, counterbalanced design. Results indicated that participants used less efficient movement dynamics when pouring hot water (higher risk) than when pouring cold water (lower risk). Elders tended to take longer and make more adjustments when pouring hot water than when pouring cold water. Occupational therapists can use this information to better understand the movement dynamics needed during everyday occupations and design therapeutic interventions that appropriately challenge clients.

89. Thomas Heywood
A biography of the English dramatist, plus links to purchase all of his works currently in print.
http://www.theatrehistory.com/british/heywoodt001.html
THOMAS HEYWOOD This article was originally published in Encyclopedia Britannica, Eleventh Edition, Volume XIII . Anonymous. Cambridge: University Press, 1910. p. 439-40. Purchase Plays by Thomas Heywood HEYWOOD, THOMAS (d. c. 1650), English dramatist and miscellaneous author, was a native of Lincolnshire, born about 1575, and said to have been educated at Cambridge and to have become a fellow of Peterhouse. Heywood is mentioned by Philip Henslowe as having written a book or play for the Lord Admiral's company of actors in October 1596; and in 1598 he was regularly engaged as a player in the company, in which he presumably had a share, as no wages are mentioned. He was also a member of other companies, of Lord Southampton's, of the earl of Derby's and of the earl of Worcester's players, afterwards known as the Queen's Servants. In his preface to the English Traveller (1633) he describes himself as having had "an entire hand or at least a main finger in two hundred and twenty plays." Of this number, probably considerably increased before the close of his dramatic career, only twenty-three survive. He wrote for the stage, not for the press, and protested against the printing of his works, which he said he had no time to revise. He was, said Tieck, the "model of a light and rapid talent," and his plays, as might be expected from his rate of production, bear little trace of artistic elaboration. Charles Lamb called him a "prose

ALTIZER ON BLAKE? Message-Id: To: BLAKE@albion.com Subject: Kenosis Message-Id: Kenosis: self-emptying This is a term with a long history in Christian theology. A kenotic Christ is a Christ who gives himself to the world; the godhead in him is giving and emptying itself into and for the Creation. To term this "atheistic" is to label in haste a concept and term which Christian theologians have rather obviously found congenial. (The word I keep seeing in Altizer's writings is "reversal" he's in favor of reversals, as many as possible apparently. Blake as an "atheist" would be an example. So this makes him fun to read! Well.....) To repeat: Altizer told me once that A.L. Morton (_The Everlasting Gospel_) showed him what direction to take when he wrote that early book about Blake. In the kenotic version, Jesus "emptied" himself of the godhead in order to become human, leaving God in heaven to announce his pleasure in his son at the time of John the Baptist's baptism. The two views clearly involve completely different notions of theophany. I realize that this is probably a simplistic version of the differencecorrect me if I am way off base. Why So Conservative?
Thomas J.J. Altizer, known both as a radical theologian and a scholar on Blake and Milton, issued this challenge in the second plenary lecture of the 1997 UK conference.
It was a delight for this theologian to attend his first conference of the Sea of Faith, and to discover there a body of serious inquirers into ultimate issues, as well as a remarkably large group of serious theologians, more than I could have discovered at a comparable meeting in the United States. Yet it was a shock to discover that few here are apparently interested in the radical traditions of the United Kingdom, and above all in the tradition of radical Christianity, which seemingly affected England more than any other nation, and which gave us such ultimate visionaries as Milton and Blake. I was informed that radical Christianity plays little if any role in contemporary British theology, is apparently unattended throughout the United Kingdom, except in seemingly non-theological circles, and is even absent in British politics today, despite its overwhelming role in the birth of British democracy. This is baffling to an American observer, and one wonders if the English today are even more ahistorical than are we Americans! Can this be true of the Sea of Faith? Frankly, your community reminds me of American Quakers and Unitarians, who have almost wholly forgotten their radical origins, and who have little if any awareness that they come out of traditions which once claimed to be true as opposed to false Christianity. In the United States today there is a dominant conviction that genuine Christianity is orthodox Christianity, and I sensed such a condition in England, and even in the Sea of Faith.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (1968)
This movie is less of an action/thriller and more of a clash of two pushy, egotistical souls. With their cat-and-mouse game of deciding which one of them is prettier. The movie ends with Faye crying, so I guess Steve won. His sunglasses defeated her large-brimmed hat. Totally good movie. - tom, july 29 01 OPENING CREDITS: Fucking excellent, and beautifully referred back to throughout the movie. COOL OLD CARS: Nice Ford wagon, plus countless nice background vehicles. I myself am not a big fan of dunebuggies. Especially McQueen's big stupid one. Wow, was he doing the real driving? The Thomas Love Peacock Page
Thomas Love Peacock at age 72 Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866) is one of the most interesting as well as the most neglected of nineteenth century writers. His prose is intellectual and satirical, speaks only to the well educated and is unlikely to command a wide readership at the end of the twentieth century. Nevertheless, Peacock was a close friend of many major figures of his day, including Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822), both his wives Harriet Westbrook (who killed herself 1816) and Mary Godwin (1797-1851), Leigh Hunt (1784-1859), John Stuart Mill (1806-1873), Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) and many others. He was Shelley's literary agent during the latter's absence abroad from 1818 to his death in 1822, and afterwards was the executor of Shelley's will. Born at Weymouth on 18 October, 1785, he entered the service of the East India Company in 1819, and in 1820 married Jane Gryffydh, daughter of the rector of Maentwrog in Wales. His daughter married the novelist George Meredith (1828-1909). Peacock became Chief Examiner of Indian Correspondence in 1836, retired from the East India Company in 1856, and died at Halliford-on-Thames at the age of 81 on 23 January, 1866. Peacock wrote both prose and poetry, but is best known for the former. For a selection of the shorter poems, click here
