Gene Stratton-Porter, World-Famous Naturalist
G ene (born Geneva) Stratton-Porter is one of Indiana's most famous female authors. Her life and intellect are fascinating. She was a prime example of an independent woman, an accomplished naturalist, a perfectionist extraordinaire and a born story-teller. Born near Wabash, Indiana in 1863, she lived until 1924. A streetcar accident claimed her life in Los Angeles at the height of her movie production career. For a thorough biography of Gene Stratton-Porter, see her daughter Jeanette Porter Meehan's book, The Lady of the Limberlost, ©Doubleday-Doran Company.

The Cabin
T his home is an Indiana State Historic Site, administered by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. There are only 16 of these historic sites in Indiana. The Porters built the home in 1895 after the birth of their only child, Jeanette. The white cedar logs used to construct the home came from Wisconsin. The architectural style is an unusual "Queen Anne Rustic," actually Arts and Crafts style. The interior is more indicative of the late Victorian period. Much of the interior paneling is quarter sawn red oak. The music room's lincrusta is beautifully restored.

72. Gene Stratton Porter- HS Treasures
Gene STRATTON PORTER. Titles that are currently in print and available. We have selected cover. GSP lived from 18631924. Her books
http://www.hstreasures.com/gsp.html
GENE STRATTON PORTER Titles that are currently in print and available Freckles - Gene S. Porter. Paperback. Her most popular book. Children of all ages love this book. Parents love it for the rich vocabulary and morals and values. Select Girl of the Limberlost for the sequel.
Laddie: A True Blue Story

Similar to GSP's childhood. Admired by educators, naturalists and theologians. All her books are well written and great examples of character. Daughter of the Land - The youngest daughter of a prosperous Indiana farm family defies expectations, leaves home, and eventually realizes her dream of owning her own farm.
Harvester
- A quality romance novel about a hermit who lives alone and supports himself by growing, harvesting and drying medicinal herbs. By knocking on doors and selling flowers he searches for a wife. He finds her, but she is traumatized and ill. The Harvester builds a home for her and establishes a relationship only to have her become so ill she almost dies. An unforgetable story of how he wins both her life and love. A treasure for character training and acceptable romance.
Girl of the Limberlost
Sequel to Freckles
The story of a girl named Elnora who must pay for her education by collecting and selling moths. A glimpse of life in the early 1900's where children learned through difficulties. This girl not only learns more about herself but about her Mother as well. Another favorite title by GSP selected by children.
