Tshirts African Cichlids Ignorance is the first requisite of the historian ignorance, which simplifies and clarifies, which selects and omits, with a placid perfection unattainable by the highest art.
It is not the historian's business to be complimentary; it is his business to lay bare the facts of the case, as he understands them . . . dispassionately, impartially and without ulterior motives. Perhaps of all the creations of man language is the most astonishing. Discretion is not the better part of biography. One should be just as careful about lying as about telling the truth.

Biographical Sketch
Giles Lytton Strachey was born in 1880, the eleventh of thirteen children, to General Sir Richard Strachey and his wife Jane Grant. Though he spent some years at boarding schools, including Abbotsholme and Leamington College, he received much of his education at home. His mother enjoyed strong interests in literature and politics and Strachey met many of the leading writers and thinkers of the day when they came to visit Lady Strachey. Strachey's secondary education was completed at University College in Liverpool where he studied Latin, Greek, mathematics, and English literature and history. It was at University College that he met and was influenced by Walter Raleigh, a professor of English literature and well known biographer. After failing to receive a scholarship to Oxford in 1899, Strachey decided to attend Cambridge where he developed many friendships which lasted the rest of his life. At Cambridge he met Clive Bell, Thoby Stephen, and Leonard Woolf, with whom he started the Midnight Society and the X Society. Along with many other future "Bloomsberries" he was elected to the Apostles. In 1903 fellow Apostle G.E. Moore's

Carrington, Dora (1893-1932)
page: Dora de Houghton Carrington was an English painter, designer and decorative artist whose life and relationships were complex. She is best known for her deep attachment to the homosexual writer Lytton Strachey, but she had affairs with both men and women. Carrington painted only for her own pleasure, did not sign her works, and rarely exhibited them, hence she was not well known as a painter during her lifetime. Even though she was a founding member of the Omega Workshop with Roger Fry, her decorative art also remained unknown to the public until the late 1960s. Sponsor Message.
Born in Hereford, England on March 29, 1893, Dora Carrington was the fourth child of Samuel Carrington and Charlotte Houghton. When Dora was ten years old the family moved to Bedford where she attended a girls' high school and took extra art classes. Seven years later, in 1910, Dora won a scholarship to the Slade School of Art in London where she studied with Henry Tonks and Fred Brown until 1914. During her years at Slade, the artist dropped her first name, becoming known simply as Carrington, and cut her hair into a bowl cut. She was a successful student at the Slade School and was awarded several prizes during her years there.

Giles Lytton Strachey (March 1 1880 - January 21 1932), a British writer, was born in London the eleventh of thirteen children and from 1899 to 1905 studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. From 1904 to 1914 he contributed book and drama reviews to The Spectator magazine. He joined other Cambridge graduates in the Bloomsbury group. His first major success, and his most famous achievement, was Eminent Victorians (1918), a collection of four short biographies of Victorian heroes. With a dry wit, he exposed the human failings of his subjects and what he saw as the hypocrisy at the centre of Victorian morality. This work was followed in the same style by Queen Victoria (1921).
In 1915 Strachey met Dora Carrington, a graduate of the Slade School of Art and the woman who would shortly devote herself to him for the rest of his life.
He lived with the painter Dora Carrington, who loved him, and her husband Ralph Partridge, whom he loved. Cousin to Duncan Grant.

British biographer and essayist. His father was Sir Richard Strachey, an Indian civil engineer and soldier. His mother was the essayist Lady Jane Strachey. He was the eleventh child and was named after his godfather, the first earl of Lytton, viceroy of India. He attended Abbotshulme School, and then went to Leamington College and Liverpool University where he studied history. In 1899 he also went to Trinity College, Cambridge where he became a member of the Apostles and he began life-long friendships with G. E. Moore, John Maynard Keynes E. M. Forster , Leonard Woolf, and Clive Bell who became members of the Bloomsbury Group . He also had long, leisurely, intimate conversations with Thoby Stevens, Virginia Woolf 's brother. He wrote verse and Ely: An Ode won the Chancellor's Medal. He failed to get a fellowship at Cambridge and left in 1905. However, he often visited the town over the following years to take part in the intellectual life and to be with John Maynard Keynes who had become a lover. One of the handsome young men that he was attracted to was his cousin Duncan Grant , but Lytton Strachey was disappointed when Duncan Grant later showed that he preferred John Maynard Keynes by going to live with him.
