    Frank R. Stockton (1834 - 1902) belonged to a family closely connected with New Jersey history. One member of the family, Richard Stockton, was a signer of The Declaration of Independence, and another, Robert Stockton, had a colorful career in service of his country.
    Mr. Stockton wrote "Stories of New Jersey" in 1896. He spent most of his life in Nutley, NJ, and wrote short stories, novels and juvenile fiction. His most famous story, "The Lady or the Tiger?" is a classic piece of American literature.

Stoddard, Richard Henry Songs in Summer , etc. Storer, Thomas ed. at Oxford, wrote a long poem, The Life and Death of Thomas Wolsey, Cardinal Story, William Wetmore Roba di Roma The Tragedy of Nero The Castle of St. Angelo He and She (1894), etc. Stow, John The Woorkes of Geoffrey Chaucer, Summarie of Englyshe Chronicles (1561), afterwards called Annales of England Chronicle , and A Survey of London Stowe, Mrs. Harriet Beecher , which originally appeared in serial form in a magazine, The National Era . It did not at the time receive much attention, but on its appearance in a separate form it took the world by storm. Its sale soon reached 400,000 copies, and the reprints have probably reached a far greater number.
