Lysander Spooner
"The right and the physical power of the people to resist unjustice, are really the only securities that any people ever can have for their liberties."
To me, the most important implication of Spooner's writings is that "coercive political systems" are hoaxes and frauds. (An exception would be a political system established via legitimate contract in which all parties to a political system enter knowingly, willingly, intentionally, and explicitly into a contract or constitution to create and operate the political system. I know of no current political system that satisfies this requirement.)
Thus I regard all pretended "countries," "states," "laws," "kings," "queens," "presidents," etc. as hoaxes, frauds, imposters, and liars. This includes that the notion that Bill Clinton is "president" of the "USA" is quite absurd. It's beyond me that a freedom lover who's read Spooner's 'Constitution of No Authority' can be so gullible as to believe that there's really a "USA" and that Bill Clinton is "its" "president."

Lysander Spooner was an American legal theorist of the 19th century. He was born on a farm in Athol, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1808, and died "at one o'clock in the afternoon of Saturday, May 14, in his little room at 109 Myrtle Street, surrounded by trunks and chests bursting with the books, manuscripts, and pamphlets which he had gathered about him in his active pamphleteer's warfare over half a century long." (From Our Nestor Taken From Us by Benjamin Tucker Later known as an early individualist anarchist, Spooner advocated what he called Natural Law or the Science of Justice wherein acts of coercion against individuals were considered "illegal" but the so-called criminal acts that violated only man-made legislation were not. His activism began with his career as a lawyer, which itself violated local Massachusetts law. Spooner had studied law under the prominent lawyers and politicians, John Davis and Charles Allen, but he had never attended college. According to the laws of the state, college graduates were required to study with an attorney for three years, while non-graduates were required to do so for five years. With the encouragement of his legal mentors, Spooner set up his practice in Worcester after only three years, openly defying the courts. He saw the two-year privilege for college graduates as a state-sponsored discrimination against the poor. He argued that such discrimination was "so monstrous a principle as that the rich ought to be protected by law from the competition of the poor." In 1836, the legislature abolished the restriction.

Lysander Spooner (1808-1887)
Lysander Spooner was a late nineteenth century anarchist. The American anarchist movement provided a crucial step in the development of libertarian philosophy, coming between the American abolitionists and the Austrian School economists. Spooner's classic work, No Treason , attacks the moral authority of government, supporting instead a system of voluntary agreements. Spooner was a Massachusetts lawyer active in the abolitionist and anarchist movements. In challenge to the newly established U.S. postal monopoly, he set up his own post office, the American Letter Mail Company. While he was forced out of business by government prosecution, his model of competition forced the Post Office to lower its stamp rates for the first and only time in its history. No Treason No. VI: The Constitution of No Authority
I. The Constitution has no inherent authority or obligation. It has no authority or obligation at all, unless as a contract between man and man. And it does not so much as even purport to be a contract between persons now existing. It purports, at most, to be only a contract between persons living eighty years ago. [This essay was written in 1869.] And it can be supposed to have been a contract then only between persons who had already come to years of discretion, so as to be competent to make reasonable and obligatory contracts. Furthermore, we know, historically, that only a small portion even of the people then existing were consulted on the subject, or asked, or permitted to express either their consent or dissent in any formal manner. Those persons, if any, who did give their consent formally, are all dead now. Most of them have been dead forty, fifty, sixty, or seventy years. and the Constitution, so far as it was their contract, died with them

http://www.mtlp.org/sublit/treason.htm
Lysander Spooner No Treason Introductory The question of treason is distinct from that of slavery; and is the same that it would have been, if free States, instead of slave States, had seceded. On the part of the North, the war was carried on, not to liberate the slaves, but by a government that had always perverted and violated the Constitution, to keep the slaves in bondage; and was still willing to do so, if the slaveholders could be thereby induced to stay in the Union. The principle, on which the war was waged by the North, was simply this: that men may rightfully be compelled to submit to, and support, a government that they do not want; and that resistance, on their part, makes them traitors and criminals. No principle, that is possible to be named, can be more self-evidently false than this; or more self-evidently fatal to all political freedom. Yet it triumphed in the field, and is now assumed to be established. If it be really established, the number of slaves, instead of having been diminished by the war, has been greatly increased; for a man, thus subjected to a government that he does not want, is a slave. And there is no difference, in principle-but only in degree-between political and chattel slavery. The former, no less than the latter, denies a man's ownership of himself and the products of his labor; and asserts that other men may own him, and dispose of him and his property, for their uses, and at their pleasure. Previous to the war, there were some grounds for saying that-in theory, at least, if not in practice-our government was a free one; that it rested upon consent. But nothing of that kind can be said now, if the principle on which the war was carried on by the North, is irrevocably established.

Spooner vs. U.S. Postal System by Lucille J. Goodyear
American Legion Magazine, January 1981 There didn't seem to be any way to lick the high cost of postage until Lysander Spooner came to the rescue Since 1971, the cost of sending a letter has gone up 150 percent. Out mail service seems slower each day. And, there appears to be no feasible solution or alternative in sight. Like the weather, everyone talks and complains about the high postal rates and apparently slower service, but no one knows what to do about them. Perhaps we need another Lysander Spooner. Lysander who? The Lysander Spooner, a fiercely independent New Englander who went to battle and brought about a change in the postal system. He could also be called the "Father of the three-cent stamp ." Born on a farm in Athol, MA, in 1808, young Spooner studied law, pamphleteered and crusaded for dozens of causes before hitting upon an adversary worthy of his mettle: The United States Post Office, and he almost put it out of business! By 1844, the spiraling postal rtes had so irked Spooner that he began an extensive study of the situation. There was no question that rates were much too high. It cost 18 3/4 cents to send a letter from Boston to New York and 25 cents to send on all the way to Washington DC A letter sent from Boston to Albany, NY written on a 1/4-ounce sheet of paper and carried by the Western Railroad, cost 2/3 as much as the freight charge for carrying a barrel of flour the same distance. Spooner's summation of his study was succinct: high cost and no service.
