Timeline of Positive New Thought and Positive Thinking Authors
Belief in the human spirit, in oneself and in the process of life are the basic tenets of New Thought and Positive Thinking literature. The basic theory is that the stories we tell ourselves determine how our lives will go.
Authors are listed in the order of their first book's earliest known date of publication. Many titles are linked to Amazon.com. Click on the title to read more detailed descriptions. You can also look up the authors at Mlvyl, the University of California library database: click here for Mlvyl . The timeline is still under construction - there are about a hundred more authors listed at the bottom of the page, i plan to add to the timeline. Bookmark this page and come back soon.

Here's a Positive Thought
American mystic Vernon Howard (1918 - 1992) taught us that pictures communicate large amounts of data to the mind. He gave us Psycho-Pictography: The New Way to Use the Miracle Power of Your Mind (1965). The book offers dozens of healing pictures. Following is an example of a healing psycho-pictograph. Contemplate this story whenever you're afraid of a person who abuses power.
"Suppose you see a tiger in a zoo. Now, you know very well that this tiger is a cruel and vicious animal. He would destroy you if he could. You understand his ferocity, yet you are unafraid of him; his cruelty does not alarm you. Why are you fearless? Because you know he is powerless to harm you. The bars protect you. What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.
J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
Margaret Sidney: The Five Little Peppers and Their Creator Remember Phronsie Pepper and the little brown house in Badgerton? Both were the fictional creations of Harriett Mulford Stone Lothrop, who wrote about the beloved Pepper family under the pseudonym Margaret Sidney.
Born June 22, 1844 in New Haven, Connecticut, Harriett Stone was the daughter of architect Sidney Mason Stone. In 1878 she began sending short stories to Wide Awake , a children's magazine published by Daniel Lothrop. Eventually two stories"Polly Pepper's Chicken Pie" and "Phronsie Pepper's New Shoes"caught the special attention of the editor, who wanted more Pepper stories, and of the publisher himself, who married the author in 1881. That was the same year his company published

Preface
My study of The Wayside history has been enriched through the courtesy and kindness of many persons. I am deeply indebted to the Boston Public Library for permission to quote from the Sophia Hawthorne Collection of Letters; and to Mr. Frederick Wolsey Pratt who kindly gave me access to diaries and letters of his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bronson Alcott , and of their daughter, Elizabeth . I have been graciously allowed to quote from the Journal kept by Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife , 1844-1854, an Autograph Note for Septimius Felton,

Name Claim to Fame Algernon Sidney
Algernon Sidney was born at Penshurst Place , Kent in 1622. He became a parliamentarian cavalry officer during the civil war and was seriously wounded during the battle of Marston Moor in July 1644. Algernon fell out of favour with Oliver Cromwell and withdrew from politics for a while. He went into exile when Charles II was returned to the throne in 1660. On his return to England he re-entered politics and was drawn into the Whig party. He was later arrested and implicated in the Rye House plot to assassinate the king and his brother, James. He was beheaded on December 7th 1683 although his guilt was never established. He became a republican martyr within the Whig party and this recognition was responsible for the use of Sidney as a first name. Algernon's publication

Algernon Sidney
Algernon Sidney was born at Penshurst Place, Kent in 1622.
