Wednesday, December 11, 1996 Wednesday, November 13, 1996 Wednesday, October 9, 1996 Wednesday, September 11, 1996 ITAB Telecommunications Committee Meeting Wednesday, December 11, 1996 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Members present: Jerry Niebaum, Denise Moore, Phil Wallack, Ron Rohrer, Mel Chastain and Steve Johnson Members absent: Tim Blevins, Dick Barta, Bob Eckhardt Andy Scharf, Dave Larson, Guy McDonald and Doug Heacock. Guests: Allyn Lockner Recorder: Tracy Barngrover Niebaum opened and conducted the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting are available on the Internet on the CIA webpage. The address is ciao.da.state.ks.us He began the meeting by discussing a new initiative, AInternet II@ which will be used by the universities. The reason for the creation of this initiative is that Universities are finding that there is a real Abottleneck@ for research work. Jerry discussed how the new system would work. He noted that the gigipops have not been defined and paths were not set. There are 70 out of 125 research universities that have committeed to being a part of Internet II. The cost to each university will be a half million dollars per year. It is not clear yet where the management of the gigipop will be. At this point in the meeting, Allyn Lockner from SRS joined the committee. There was lengthy discussion and brainstorming to come to agreement on the definitions for AKansas State Government@, ATelecommunications@ and ACustomers@. Lockner provided direction for the group and will return to the next meeting to continue brainstorming. A synopsis of what the group arrived at is as follows:

Ann Rohrer later hooked up with Linda Larsen in 1975 and Rick Eichhorn of Drakyi acquired his first TM from Ann in 1978 which had another type, called the Kalu type.

    Steve Ryba '75
Four days after graduating from RUHS in 1975, I moved with my folks to San Marcos (San Diego County). I went to the local Junior College for a year and a half, taking classes in photography, drafting, and graphic arts. Pretty soon, I figured out that I had no idea what I wanted to be "when I grew up," so I joined the Air Force in January '77. I spent the next 10 years on Active Duty, with 6 months in Texas going to school; 4 years in Germany with a mobile and reconnaissance unit; and over 5 years in Maryland, working at the National Security Agency (NSA), also known as No Such Agency and Never Say Anything. While in Germany, I fell in love with the girl of my dreams (Lorraine, the daughter of one of the guys in my unit); we've been married for over 19 years (and happily counting).
After the Air Force, we moved back to San Marcos where we sold Real Estate for about 4 years until the Great California Real Estate Crash of 1990 showed us the error of our ways (we got tired of working for free), so I started my own computer consulting business. Starting your own businesscan be tough, so, unfortunately, there was some extra time in there as a pizza delivery driver, too.
The computer business eventually did real well, and it led to a contract with a mortgage company in San Marcos doing computer support. That turned into a full-time job offer as the manager of their IS Department. I've been there since 1995; Lorraine has been there as the Network Administrator since 1997.

Well Carol was almost finished getting her Art Degree and was working as a graphic artist for a printing company when we had our first kid, Christopher Rohrey. Well she went back a couple of semester later and finished school in 1984. I, in the meantime, fell into the plumbing business. Not as a plumber, but working at a wholesale supply house. Doing everything from delivering water heaters and tubs to managing the purchasing department for one of the countries largest plumbing wholesaler.
In 1986 we had our second child, Jasmine Diane (she only answers to Jazz). She is now 14 and a freshman in high school while Chris is a senior, both at Chatsworth High School. Sorry, no musicians just yet, even with all the musical talent in the "both families". (I use "both families" loosely because My Dad, Stacy, and myself are all Drummers). Chris is on the High School Robotics team and has competed in the Nationals for 3 years. Jazz is quite the character, as some of you remember Carol being at Redondo. She has been in drama and has big plans on being famous. She is currently trying to learn guitar so she can start a "girl" rock band.

    Biography
Tina Rohrer, born in Washington, DC, was educated at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Harvard University, and the Silvermine Guild Arts Center. Rohrer's work has been included in Connecticut Art Annual competitions, Faber Birren National Color Award shows, and Art of the Northeast USA exhibitions. Among the honors she has received are the Golden Color Award, the Liquitex Color Award, and awards in sculpture and painting from the Stamford Art Association. Rohrer's work has been shown in group shows at the Discovery Museum, the Mattatuck Museum, the John Slade Ely House, the Katonah Museum, and Northern Westchester Center for the Arts. She has had solo exhibitions at the Landmark Lobby Gallery in the Art/Ex Gallery in Connecticut and the Hiram Halle Memorial Library in Pound Ridge, NY. Rohrer's three-dimensional tiered wooden structures have evolved from canvases painted with the illusion of three dimensions. Both types of acrylic works are painted with techniques inspired by the marking process of Seurat's and Albers' color theories and geometrical presentations. "The principal focus of my work is on the optical qualities of color. From a distance, the individual marks lose their identity; hues are seen in the mid-range and these then coalesce to form a textural, geometric image. The mandala represents oneness, integration, balance, and unity. Some of the pieces exhibit an inherent meditative quality. Confronting my own mortality has increased my awareness of deeply rooted spiritual concerns. Thus, my art deals not only with self-unity but also with some type of oneness with god, a higher power, nature, or the cosmos.
