Storyteller Bob Sander with "The Circle"
. The sole monument to Indiana's centennial still standing is our State Parks. They were created in 1916, largely through the efforts of one man: Richard Lieber. This is both his story and the story origin of our State Parks and Department of Natural Resources. It is also a snapshot of another time. In this engaging, participatory story, listeners are guided back into the moment when the Parks began. A live auction is re-created (using students/teachers as bidders), at which our first State Park was bid upon, lost, nearly ruined, and regained. Entwined with this presentation is a reverence for the natural world around us, a portrait of German immigrants in Indianapolis, and a subtle mystery puzzle that, in due course, reveals an intriguing symbol of hope.

and the Poet of The Hoosier people. Hoosier is a term used by Indiana folks whose outlook on life is to be caring, hard working, and tolerant of others regardless of race, or social status. In short, it reflects on their disposition of life in general, and shortcoming of others in a kind-hearted manner in a non-judgemental way.

Celebrating Fine Art in the American Tradition
This page includes links to artists, authors, composers, philosophers, churchmen and scholars who represent, in our view, the foundations of art, science, and religion in America. Though made up primarily of pre-moderns, we have added a select few contemporary individuals whose exceptional contributions to American art make them worthy of inclusion. This page is very much a work in progress. If you would like to suggest additional individuals who we may have overlooked, please send us an email.

I An alien wind that blew and blew
Over the fields where the ripe grain grew, Sending ripples of shine and shade
That crept and crouched at her feet and played. The sea-like summer washed the moss
Till the sun-drenched lilies hung like floss, Draping the throne of green and gold
That lulled her there like a queen of old. II Was it the hum of a bumblebee,
Or the long-hushed bugle eerily Winding a call to the daring Prince
Lost in the wood long ages since? A dim old wood, with a palace rare
Hidden away in its depths somewhere! Was it the Princess, tranced in sleep,
Awaiting her lover's touch to leap Into the arms that bent above? To thaw his heart with the breath of love And cloy his lips, through her waking tears

POETRY AND CROWN HILL It is generally known that famous Hoosier Poet James Whitcomb Riley is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, indeed, buried at the very top of Crown Hill. But several other poets, well-known in their time but now mostly forgotten, are also buried here. These include Sarah Bolton, Indiana's first and most famous female poet; Dan Paine, known as one of "the cloak poets" for his habit of wandering the streets in his huge army overcoat; and a contemporary Black poet, Etheridge Knight. Here is a sample of their poetry. At Crown Hill
Leave him here in the fresh
greening grasses and trees
And the symbols of love, and the solace of these-
The saintly white lilies and blossoms he keeps
In endless caress as
he breathlessly sleeps.
The tears of our eyes wrong the scene of his rest,
For the sky's at its clearest-the sun's at its best-
The earth at its greenest- its wild bud and bloom
At its sweetest-and sweetest its honey'd perfume. Home! Home!-Leave him here in his lordly estate, And with never a tear as we turn from the gate!

In his later years, his unwavering belief in Spiritualism was a source of strenght despite some public ridicule. It is befitting such a man to have so many references on the Web.
