http://www.caryn.com/francis/francis-bio.html
Francis's Life Story Francis began his life as a cute little mutt sometime in 1992 (we think). He is half Great Dane and half Black Lab. We never knew which half was which, but one day, we met another male Black Lab/Dane mix who was much bigger than Francis (believe it or not!!) so we have decided that Francis's mom was the Great Dane. (As a noteFrancis, who has serious macho tendencies when it comes to getting along with other boys, greeted that dog as if he were his long-lost brother; we were certain that the dogs recognized their similarities). Francis was a homeless little puppy who lived at the beach, often, we're sad to report, suffering at the hands of some abusive human(s) (at least, that's what we think based on his behavior around strangershe's OK with women but hides under tables at the sight of men, especially if they are big). When he was found, he had broken ribs, a broken leg, and had lacerations on his head from where bottles were crashed on it. Had he been taken to a shelter, he might never have gotten out, but fortunately, he was rescued by a private group, who placed him through a word-of-mouth placement network within the entertainment industry. This is how, about a year and a half into his puppyhood, Kristen came into Francis's life, and he moved from LA's southern beaches to Hollywood's Runyon Canyon, until Mommy decided to move back to the beach, right alongside the Venice Canals. This was great fun. After all, the Canals have plenty of ducks and kitty cats to chase, and Mommy's dead bolt on her door was no match for a smart, determined doggie, especially one high on the smell of kitty cats, so Francis was pretty much able to let himself out at will. This made Francis quite the neighborhood fixture, dancing along to his very own tune of "Oh, there goes that black dog again..." Since he is so fast, the only way to get him to come back was to find another dog on the street, and give this dog all the attention while Francis watched. He'd last about 2 seconds before running over to see if he could get in on the action. Once he began

A Dog Day Afternoon at the Movies Francis and I got to do a film together this past summeran independent feature filmed in Venice, CA
directed by Drew Ann Rosenberg, entitled The Dog People . It's kind of a 1984 for dogs where the dog
people are suppressed by the anti-dog people and one woman rises to buck the system. Remarkably
enough, Francis listened to directions for every take! What a ham guess he saves his perfect
performances for the camerawho knew?! (His selective listening skills are legendary in the annals of dogdom ) Anyhow, for those of you unfamilar with the process of making of movie...here's a glimpse of what goes into making a few minutes of what you see on screen. All links on this page take you to a RealVideo clip of the action. You will need the RealPlayer to view these clips. For info on how to get this and all the other goodies you need for any site at Caryn.com, please visit our Tools Area f or additional assistance. A Take is another name for a chance to get it right. With indie films, time is money (that you don't have) so ideally you'd like everything to be perfect on the first try. Not to mention that if you're oh, say, a little lacking in the permit department from the city, you'd better be quick enough to get out of there before the cops show up! Now the first shot establishes a sense of place a Master shot filmed from the top of a building looking down on the street gives an overview of the action of the scene. I received instructions from the director via walkie-talkie from a nearby hidden crew member!

Interview: Sage Francis, Fuck Clear Channel Tour
Introduction by Nicholas Reville
Sage Francis is a rapper out of Providence, RI and half of Non-Prophets (the other half is DJ Joe Beats). Sage made a reputation for himself by consistently winning poetry slams and freestyling competitions, and has built something of a cult following. His style is always personal and often highly political, but refreshingly free of preachiness. With his new Fuck Clear Channel Tour, Sage is pushing music industry politics to the forefront. Now when someone announces a "Fuck Clear Channel Tour", you know Downhill Battle is going to have to do an interview. Clear Channel is notorious for what they've done to radio consolidation and homogenization are the operative words here. They've been investigated for anti-trust violations while continuing to gobble up as many stations as they can legally own. It's gotten to the point that people in the record industry say you can't make a hit without convincing Clear Channel to add a song to their playlist just one more way that the corporate music machine narrows and limits access to creative music.

    MISTRESS MARY QUITE CONTRARY
Mary had liked to look at her mother from a distance and she had thought her very pretty, but as she knew very little of her she could scarcely have been expected to love her or to miss her very much when she was gone. She did not miss her at all, in fact, and as she was a self-absorbed child she gave her entire thought to herself, as she had always done. If she had been older she would no doubt have been very anxious at being left alone in the world, but she was very young, and as she had always been taken care of, she supposed she always would be. What she thought was that she would like to know if she was going to nice people, who would be polite to her and give her her own way as her Ayah and the other native servants had done.
She knew that she was not going to stay at the English clergyman's house where she was taken at first. She did not want to stay. The English clergyman was poor and he had five children nearly all the same age and they wore shabby clothes and were always quarreling and snatching toys from each other. Mary hated their untidy bungalow and was so disagreeable to them that after the first day or two nobody would play with her. By the second day they had given her a nickname which made her furious.
It was Basil who thought of it first. Basil was a little boy with impudent blue eyes and a turned-up nose, and Mary hated him. She was playing by herself under a tree, just as she had been playing the day the cholera broke out. She was making heaps of earth and paths for a garden and Basil came and stood near to watch her. Presently he got rather interested and suddenly made a suggestion.

    2. A French Lesson When Sara entered the schoolroom the next morning everybody looked at her with wide, interested eyes. By that time every pupil from Lavinia Herbert, who was nearly thirteen and felt quite grown up, to Lottie Legh, who was only just four and the baby of the school had heard a great deal about her. They knew very certainly that she was Miss Minchin's show pupil and was considered a credit to the establishment. One or two of them had even caught a glimpse of her French maid, Mariette, who had arrived the evening before. Lavinia had managed to pass Sara's room when the door was open, and had seen Mariette opening a box which had arrived late from some shop. "It was full of petticoats with lace frills on themfrills and frills," she whispered to her friend Jessie as she bent over her geography. "I saw her shaking them out. I heard Miss Minchin say to Miss Amelia that her clothes were so grand that they were ridiculous for a child. My mamma says that children should be dressed simply. She has got one of those petticoats on now. I saw it when she sat down." "She has silk stockings on!" whispered Jessie, bending over her geography also. "And what little feet! I never saw such little feet."

    30. Economic Realities Sweep Away St. Francis

Economic realities sweep away St. Francis By Candace Perry Published November 2002 Mark Webb, M.D., is a psychiatrist based in North Hills, Pa. PND: What is your background and association with St. Francis? MW: MW: PND: Did St. Francis have a different patient population that made care more costly? MW: PND: Would St. Francis keep patients longer than other hospitals? MW: PND: Do you think the health system could have been salvaged at St. Francis? MW: PND: What role did the medical staff play in the critical decision-making over the past two years? MW: MW: PND: What specific impacts did the liquidation have on physicians? MW: PND: Did a lot of physicians jump ship early on, or did they wait until the end? MW: I saw a good number leave within that three-year period, but it was still a minority of physicians. In the last year there was some pretty heavy negotiating going on with these physicians to go into another hospital system, as they had no choice. Their patients are going to get sick, they will need critical care beds and admission to hospitals, and if St. Francis is not around, they absolutely had to get credentialed somewhere else, which they did with the local hospitals. Everyone is going their own way. Probably the majority will go on staff and salaried staff at some of the other hospitals. Others may choose the private practice route or may choose to work with an entirely different system. There may be some who choose to work for a managed care system, which pays well if you do what it mandates.

Francis Francis! X5 and ESE pods
Warning: this entry has nothing to do with code. As I blogged earlier (I think!) I have a rather nice espresso machine at home. You can pick one up for yourself at Whole Latte Love (that pun makes my dear friend wince :-) ) but it's a bit big (and expensive) to have one at work as well, so I took advantage of this really cool offer from illy to get a Francis Francis! X5 machine for only $175. (The catch: you have to buy a year's worth of coffee to go with it). Anyway, the machine itself can use both normal ground coffee and ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) pods. I've always used ground coffee in the past (the pods are waaaaaaaaay too expensive), but the machine came with a free tin of illy ESE pods so I figured "what the heck I'll try them out."

Francis recalls many changes over the years
    By TOM SCHNEIDER
    Daily Press Staff Writer
A lot of things have changed in the years that Elliot Francis has lived in and around Artesia. "My grandfather started that garage in 1922 with his four sons," said Francis. "And then my father joined him in 1935." The building was fairly distinctive, becoming something of a local landmark. "It was noted for its many deer horns," he said. "It had 365 deer horns around the top of the building and on the ceiling. Most of those deer were shot by my grandfather and his family." It became a sort of headquarters for the "mountain people" from west of Artesia. "People who lived in the mountains would come down to town and loaf at the garage," said Francis. "Then my grandfather would have them up to his house for dinner. Some of them would bring their bedrolls, and then sleep in the garage at night." Francis remembers many of the old characters that used to frequent the garage, many of them from the very earliest days of the town.

    - francis! francis! x3 home professional reviews detailed reviews francis! francis! x3 .. first days Francis! Francis! X3 - The First Few Days Introduction Overview Specifications Operation ... Conclusion There's one thing you can't accuse Francis! Francis! (FF!!) of not having, and that's style. Even the packaging of their products is unique and eye catching. Those who have bought FF!! espresso cups in the past will know what I'm talking about.
The box that the X3 comes in is certainly keeping in Francis! Francis!' style and uniquety (yes, I made up that word) - it's almost like a giant jigsaw puzzle that can collapse and flatten out as you remove the machine. And it does this while keeping the X3 secure during shipping - our test unit went through the fabled (and nasty) UPS cross-the-border experience, and arrived completely unscathed.
In the box you'll find a competent instruction manual, a funky looking portafilter designed for pods, a box of Illy ESE medium roast pods, warranty cards, and because this came from an authorized Francis! Francis! reseller, the box also includes a smaller box containing the grounds portafilter, two 57mm filter baskets, and a tamper, all at no extra charge.
The machine is undeniably a minor work of art. Some believe the X1 is more unique looking, but the X3 and its "Titanic" narrow footprint really caught my eye. Apparently I'm not the only one, because this machine was one of two chosen for the "cool cop apartment" makeover done in Robert DeNiro's movie

    38. CoffeeGeek - Francis! Francis! X3 - Comparisons
Francis! X3 comments David I do have to say, the machine looks great. I would throw away the pod filter holder, except it looks Pretty cool.

    the detailed review
    - francis! francis! x3 home professional reviews detailed reviews francis! francis! x3 .. comparisons Francis! Francis! X3 - Comparisons Introduction Overview Specifications First Days ... Conclusion The Francis! Francis! X3, head to head with a Silvia? At first, it may not seem entirely fair...
But then again, putting the machine up against a thoroughbred like the La Marzocco Linea seemed as it it would be shooting fish in a barrel. And while using bad coffee was a great equalizer, the Francis! Francis! X3 more than held its own... it actually beat the Linea, if by a hair.
So does this mean that the X3 can easily beat a Rancilio Silvia, or a Gaggia Coffee? Actually, no. Remember, it was more the user skill that let the X3 beat a La Marzocco, not the machine. If Dismas Smith used both the X3 and the Rancilio Silvia, chances are he'd bang out better shots with the Silvia, or at the very least, shots on par between both machines.
I will talk about how the Francis! Francis! X3 machine compares against three other machines - the Innova Arc, the Rancilio Silvia, and the Solis SL-70. I didn't have Dismas Smith just hanging around the entire time I evaluated this machine against the competition, so unfortunately for you, my dear reader, you're stuck with my mediocre skill level and shot output. But hey, all things being equal... right?
First off, in the looks department. Well, hands down, the X3 wins... it's small, but the curves seem sculpted, not press formed. The Silvia seems like a box, the X3 definitely has a panache of curves and art deco styling. The Innova Arc, a latecomer to this testing, actually looks pretty fine, and the Solis SL-70… well, it's an acquired taste, but at least the silver and black models look way better than the white and green version.

    http://www.neutralzonehockey.com/francis.htm
Ron Francis modelling the greatest sweater in NHL history.
    By Roy Digby
    neutral zone foreign correspondent
The year was 1981. The disaster that was the Reagan Administration was just getting underway. The Hartford Whalers were just starting their third season in the NHL. And Ron Francis' Hall of Fame career was just getting beginning.
But just who is Ron Francis?
Ron Francis has been one of the most consistent players in the NHL for two decades now. If ever there was a playmaking centre, then surely his name is Ron Francis. A workhorse who is solid in the corners and along the boards, Francis also is in possession of a wicked fast snap shot that often times leaves goalies wondering what happened. And the passing. Oh the passing. And let us not forget the charitable causes (www.ronfrancis.org) that make us all feel ashamed that we don't give as much as this kind and caring man do.
In addition to all that, how about this: Only eight players in NHL history have scored 1,500 points, and Ron Francis is one of them. Only 27 players have ever been honoured with their own page at the neutral zone, and Ron Francis is one of them. Before the 2000-01 season started, Francis needed just 28 goals to reach 500 for his career. Make no mistake, Francis has been a franchise player his whole career; people simply forget his days in Hartford, and he was overshadowed in Pittsburgh by a couple of other players who shall remain nameless for the moment.
    DID YOU KNOW?
