Introduction (Reprinted from:
Mark O. Hatfield, with the Senate Historical Office,
Vice Presidents of the United States, 1789-1993,
Washington: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1997, pp. xiii-xxiii.) The stories of these diverse individuals attempt to sketch the development of the vice-presidency itself - that colorful, important, and routinely disparaged American political institution. Constitutional Origins and Structural Changes of the Vice Presidency Electoral system Our Constitution's framers created the vice-presidency almost as an afterthought. In setting up a system for electing presidents, they devised an electoral college and provided that each of its members was to vote for two persons, "of whom one at least shall not be an Inhabitant of the same State with themselves." In those days when loyalty to one's state was stronger than to the new nation, the framers recognized that individual electors might be inclined to choose a leader from their own immediate political circle, creating the danger of a crippling deadlock, as no one candidate would win a plurality of all votes cast. By being required to select one candidate from outside their own states, electors would be compelled to look for individuals of national stature. Under the system the framers created, the candidate receiving the most electoral votes would be president. The one coming in second would be vice president.

President of the United States
The head of state of the United States is called the President , who also serves the functions of chief executive and commander in chief of the armed forces. Under the U.S. Constitution , the U.S. president serves a four-year term and (starting when the inauguration of Dwight Eisenhower brought its twenty-second amendment into full force) may be re-elected only once. Upon entering office, the President must repeat the following oath or affirmation; "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability; preserve, protect, and defend, the Constitution of the United States" . The oath is traditionaly ended with "So help me God". As the most powerful person in the United States, a democratic republic and currently the world's only superpower , the President is sometimes referred to as "the leader of the free world," though this designation was more common during the Cold War . In government jargon, the President of the United States has been called since the

The president crew includes Chris Ballew on vocals and 2 string basitar, Dave Dederer on vocals and guitbass and Jason Finn on drums and vocals. Chris and Dave went to junior high and highschool together. They started jammin' around 85 with a drummer named Dave Theile a childhood friend of Chris. But he droped out of the band and Jason (played in Skin Yard ) saw them play in '91 and in '93 was in the band.
In their early years, they had no name and would make it up each time they played. Then they introduced themselves as "The Presidents of the United States of America" the longest name they could think of. Chris got the idea for his creative basitar from Mark Sandman, who played a two-string slide guitar. Chris removed the two high strings from his bass and tuned the remaining two to C# and G# and called it a "bassitar". Dave removed the three high strings from his guitar and tuned the remaining three to C#, G# and C# and called it a "guitbass".
Their first album was put out on Pop Llama Records in mid 95'. They had 3 singles ("Kitty", "Lump" and "Peaches") and a video on major rotation on mtv.

Presidents Page THE 2003-2004 LOGO President John’s logo this year is based on the Irish symbol, the Claddagh. The word “Claddagh” takes its name from a small fishing village overlooking Galway Bay. Legend has it that a goldsmith created the basic design 400 years ago. The symbol, which can be found on items of all sorts, from jewelry to pottery, always contains a heart (symbolizing love) cradled in two hands (symbolizing friendship), and topped by a crown (symbolizing loyalty). The design has been modified with the Junior Chamber logo in the heart, and the US JCI Senate shield replacing the crown. As President John said in Michigan, “We are here because of our love of the Jaycee movement; we are here because of the friendships we have made in Jaycees and the Senate; and we participate because as JCI Senators we remain loyal to the organization that has meant so much to us. So, what a perfect symbol for us: The Claddagh.”

    http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/government/national/president.html
The President of the United States The President is the head of the executive branch and plays a large role in making America’s laws. His job is to approve the laws that Congress creates. When the Senate and the House approve a bill, they send it to the President. If he agrees with the law, he signs it and the law goes into effect. If the President does not like a bill, he can refuse to sign it. When he does this, it is called a veto . If the President vetoes a bill, it will most likely never become a law. Congress can override a veto, but to do so two-thirds of the Members of Congress must vote against the President. Despite all of his power, the President cannot write bills. He can propose a bill, but a member of Congress must submit it for him. In addition to playing a key role in the lawmaking process, the President has several duties. He serves as the American Head of State, meaning that he meets with the leaders of other countries and can make treaties with them. However, the Senate must approve any treaty before it becomes official. The President is also the Chief of the Government. That means that he is technically the boss of every government worker.

NATIONAL CELEBRATIONS Holidays in the United States
    Photograph from Digital Stock
Americans share three national holidays with many countries: Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Easter , which falls on a spring Sunday that varies from year to year, celebrates the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For Christians, Easter is a day of religious services and the gathering of family. Many Americans follow old traditions of coloring hard-boiled eggs and giving children baskets of candy. On the next day, Easter Monday, the president of the United States holds an annual Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn for young children. Christmas Day , December 25, is another Christian holiday; it marks the birth of the Christ Child. Decorating houses and yards with lights, putting up Christmas trees, giving gifts, and sending greeting cards have become traditions even for many non-Christian Americans. New Year's Day , of course, is January 1. The celebration of this holiday begins the night before, when Americans gather to wish each other a happy and prosperous coming year.
UNIQUELY AMERICAN HOLIDAYS Eight other holidays are uniquely American (although some of them have counterparts in other nations). For most Americans, two of these stand out above the others as occasions to cherish national origins: Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.
