Raymond Presbyterian Church
The first Presbyterian Church was organized April 30, 1880 and was called Little Salt Church because it stood near the Little Salt Creek three miles east of Raymond. Neither the town of Raymond nor the railroad were in existence at that time. Two years later on October 22, 1882, the congregation erected a new building in Raymond with the total cost of building and furnishings amounting to $2,000. After an urgent plea from the Rev. E.M. Lewis, the congregation provided the balance and church was dedicated and presented, debt free, to the Almighty God. The building was located on out Lot No. 1, which is now known as 2nd and High Streets. Later, the congregation bought three lots and moved the building to the location now known as 3rd and Clark Street. When the building was moved it was enlarged and improved, the cornerstone being laid November 9, 1907. The church was dedicated, free from debt, September 20, 1908. Twenty-four years after the founding of the church, a fine two-story seven room manse was built. It was finished in April, 1904, and, has always had the policy of the congregation to use the pay-as-you-go plan. The manse was also debt free. In October, 1922, work was begun to rebuild the foundation, enlarge the basement and add an annex to the west side of the church. Art glass windows were also attached. Since all the labor on this improvement was donated by members and friends, the congregation saved approximately $1,600. The project was completed by the spring of 1923.

He returned to describe what he found there was worship everywhere, but none at Okanase. They drew up a sketch. Heavy spruce timber was cut from the land at Clear Lake, floated down to Alex Kippen's mill, sawn, and hauled to the building site. Sam Havelin, a stonemason, did the foundation. Women prepared meals on the spot. Chief George Bone, Solomon and David Burns, Bill Bone, Joe Boyer and younger men did the work. They got $300 from Toronto for flooring and siding. All funds for other material was raised and contributed by the Okanase people. In 1911, the Christmas Tree Concert was held in the new church. George Bone put up his horse as security to buy the embossed steel for the walls and ceiling, but he lost the horse when the loan was not paid. The

St. Andrew's Milestones
The Church of Scotland sent its first missionary minister to Ancaster - the Rev. George Sheed, from Aberdeen, Scotland, to establish St. Andrew's. Our original church was a frame building near the corner of Wilson and Sulphur Springs Rd. on lands donated by Samuel Andrus for a church and cemetery. Our bell was purchased by congregational subscription. The only inscription on the bell is the manufacturer's name "E. Force, New York 1836". Following the merger of the Presbyterian Church of Canada with the Church of Scotland to become the Presbyterian Church in Canada, the present stone church structure was built and completed in 1875. The original St. Andrew's bell was placed in our belfry/spire, and to this day is rung each Sunday morning prior to worship. Leaded glass windows installed in August, funded by the Ladies Aid Society. Plans were drawn and funds raised to build and addition. The Christian education wing, included an auditorium, classrooms, kitchen, study, choir room, washrooms, and hot water. Total cost $ 70,000. Dedicated on Dec. 3 1961. During the early 1970's, memorial stained glass windows were installed by various church families.

“Tender Crust Bread Speaks for Itself.” A bold statement, but in this case a true one, for this bun-sized, cotton-wool creation with its painted-on crust and raisin (or is it a currant?) has a surprise hidden inside — a squeaker mechanism. Most likely manufactured in the 1930s or 1940s as a salesman’s souvenir, the bun is a fun reminder of the days when the Harris Baking Company (HBC) was the largest employer in Rogers and the delicious aroma of fresh-baked bread filled the downtown streets.
Earl A. Harris (1896-1959) started the bakery in 1926, when he and his sister bought the Strom bakery at 107 West Walnut (where Shofner’s Office Supply is today). Back then getting the ingredients to the second-floor mixing room required a team of mules and a pulley. The business was a success from the start, even during the Great Depression, producing up to 250 loaves per day. Independent salesmen bought the bread wholesale for eight cents, then sold them to customers along their routes for a few pennies more. Roy Webster was one such entrepreneur, selling not only HBC bread but his wife’s pies, too. (Eventually the pair went on to found the

The Peter Plotkin Paintings Most of the settlers who came to Collin County during the decade, 1840-1850, were from Tennessee and Kentucky. This was due to the fact that Louisville, Kentucky, was headquarters for the Peter's Colony, the company authorized by the Republic of Texas to give land in this area to settlers. Many of these people were Cumberland Presbyterians, a branch of the Presbyterian church which originated in the Cumberland region west of the Alleghenies. There were three Cumberland Presbyterian churches in Collin County before the Civil War, the ones at Walnut Grove, Parker, and McKinney. After the close of the Civil War, due to the aftermath of devastation in much of the "Deep South," settlers began coming from these states to Collin County. Some of them were members of the "Southern" or "Old School" Presbyterian Church, our Presbyterian Church, U.S. So it was that our church came into being in 1874. In one of his notable addresses, the Reverend Robert I. Gannon, former president of Fordham University, said, "All true civilization is ninety per cent heirlooms and memories - an accumulation of small but precious deposits left by the generations that have gone before us." It is in the spirit of calling to mind the heirlooms and memories of our church that this little booklet is presented to the members of the congregation.

Scope and Content Note
The Records of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale consist of materials relating to the establishment and growth of the church and the development of the city of Carbondale. The records date from the 1850s to the 1970s. A history of the church’s early years, contained in the collection, was written by Daniel Harmon Brush, a founder of Carbondale and a founding member of the church. The collection is divided into three sections: Historical Materials, which document church history and Carbondale city development; Business Materials, which are financial records documenting primarily construction of the Carbondale Presbyterian churches; and the Women’s Association History, which contains material on various church women’s groups such as the Ladies Aid Society and the Missionary Society. The Historical Materials section contains church histories, records of church groups, church newsletters, materials documenting relations with national and state Presbyterian synods, dismissions and transfer certificates of members, lists of ministers, missionaries, and subscribers to the church, cornerstone contents, and centennial celebration plans. The Business Materials series contains the financial records of the church such as accounts, treasurer’s reports, mortgages, bonds, vouchers, loans and invoices. Well-documented in this section are the plans for, the construction of, and the invoices of transactions for erecting the new church in 1905-06.

http://www.users.nac.net/rcaboonton/history.html
The First 100 years! A hundred years ago south Boonton was mostly farmland, for the population of about 2,700 had settled mainly on the hillside above the Morris Canal. The Canal was then a busy waterway, and the iron industry with its thriving business in cut nails was the town's chief livelihood. While the Civil War had ended just three years before, it had left its scars. Many people turned to the church, seeking consolation. In Boonton it was a time of church building, for the years between 1860 and 1869 saw most of the present houses of worship built and dedicated. First Five New Century Decades of Growth Round off 100 Years ... In Retrospect The Beginning On February 2, 1868, less than a year after Boonton's own incorporation as a town, the First Reformed Church was organized, largely due to the spirit and initiative of Rev. Nathaniel Conklin of the Montville Reformed Church. That organization, which had its beginnings in 1756 in Old Boonton, an area now under the reservoir, was therefore our mother church. In the growing town of 1868, Rev. Conklin saw a "wide field of Christian influence for a church of his own denomination." Blowers, Crane, Doremus, Dockerty, Gaines, Myers, Porson, Sargeant, Tompkins, Roome - these are the families that made up the 21 members of the original congregation. Almost all of them had been attending the Lower Montville Church, as it was sometimes called, but had moved into the Boonton area from the surrounding countryside.

The History of our Location The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, formerly the Joseph A. Noto Funeral Home, located at 289 South Main St., Warren County, Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was officially established in 1965 by Joseph A. Noto, Sr. On August 1, 1991, the funeral home was purchased by Timothy E. Wynkoop from Mr. Noto, and the name was changed to Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home. The funeral home is proud to have been of continued service to the people of the Phillipsburg-Easton communities for nearly 35 years. Historically, the funeral home structure itself dates back to 1868 when it was erected as the parsonage for the First Methodist-Episcopal Church. However, the congregation first formed in 1826 in Phillipsburg and was known as the First Methodist "Class". That early congregation met in an old stone house on the southwest corner of Main Street at the old Central Railroad bridge. Then, in 1823, the gathering went to Easton, Pennsylvania, to mix with that assemblage. The Phillipsburg group later returned to Phillipsburg in 1854-55 to prepare the way for the creation of their own house of worship The congregation then met in the first Sitgreaves Elementary School Building when that brick structure was completed in 1853 on the northwest corner of Brainard Street at Hudson Street. They remained there until May 20, 1855 when the "First Methodist-Episcopal Church of Phillipsburg, New Jersey" was officially organized. The cornerstone of their new church, located at 438 (now 293) South Main Street, adjacent to the parsonage, was laid on August 13, 1855.

Church History History of Galesburg Presbyterianism In 1854 there was organized in Galesburg an "old school" Presbyterian Church. This was a national movement and was based upon questions of discipline. This body worshipped in a building on North Cedar Street, which was occupied in 1857. This building was removed to Simmons Street in 1865, where the work continued until 1870. The pastors were Rev. T. S. Vail to 1855, Rev. I. N. Candee to 1866, Rev. George Norcross to 1868, Rev. S. T. Wilson to 1870. In 1869 and 1870 the question of the union of Presbyterian interests was taken up and on March 1, 1870, the presbytery of Knox and Warren gave official sanction to the union. Prof. Pratt was stated supply for a short time of the united church, and in the fall of 1872 the Rev. Matthew Lourie became pastor. He was succeeded in the fall of 1885 by Rev. John B. Worrall, who remained until 1889. Rev. John Hood, D. D., was pastor until the congregation called the Rev. Hamilton W. Spence. Lit. D., a graduate of Knox College, class of 1888, became pastor, and remains in that office at the date of this writing. In the pastorate of Rev. Dr. John Hood the present splendid stone edifice was erected on the corner of North Prairie and East Ferris Streets, at a total cost of about $70,000.
