LADIES AID Annual Report 2003 The Ladies Aid Society, meets on the third Thursday of the month at 2p.m. in St. Paul’s Court lounge. We are a small group with ten members. Two of our members moved away during the summer. We would welcome any ladies of the Church to join us for an afternoon of worship and fellowship. Our purpose is to help out with monies to the Church. We also send donations to the Canadian Bible Society, Christian Blind Mission, Caring Cupboard, St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, and wherever needed. We also visit former members now in Nursing Homes. Mary S. our President, very graciously invites us to her home for our June meeting. This is much enjoyed by all. We save pennies through the year and have a "bring and buy sale" in November. This is a fun time and makes a few extra dollars. We are looking forward to some new members in the new year. Dorothy S. Secretary Annual Report 2002 Our group consists of eleven ladies. We meet the third Thursday of the month at 2 pm. in St. Paul’s Court. We support the Soup Kitchen, the Caring Cupboard and the Canadian Bible Society. We visit monthly, former members now residing in Nursing Homes. STAINED GLASS WINDOWS Our colourful memorial windows are much admired and we are proud of them. Dr. Moir says our windows commemorate themes of Faith and Service. There is a great deal to be noted as we look at each of the windows. Even very small details have meaning. The oldest window?...the circular "rose"-type window at the back of the gallery. It was installed when the church was built. The building was finished and dedicated in 1886. A newspaper of the time reported on the dedication service of St. Paul's, and stated, "Over the main entrance is a magnificent front window of stained glass of most elegant design." This window has no dedication or plaque. All other 10 windows are memorials. submitted by J. Aitken On the east wall is the window in memory of the 7 men who died in the Second World War. It depicts ST. MICHAEL. "Be strong and of good courage"
St. Michael is the archangel mentioned as the leader of the angels against the dragon and his h ost in the Book of Revelation. The brilliant colouring of his raiment suggests the captain of the hosts of light, riding down the darkness. This youthful celestial warrior clad in coat of mail, sworded and shielded, stands triumphant, symbolic of victory over evil. Always a symbol of inspiration to the Christian warrior, St. Michael brings a message of special encouragement with assurance that the battle has already been won - in the eternal world. He reminds us that all the resources of the spiritual world are ours, when we battle for the right. St. Michael, as Captain of the heavenly hosts, is generally accepted as the protector of Airmen.

The first church board consisted of Henry A.

years after the main part of the church was built, an addition tor the Sunday School was built at the back and a room upstairs tor the Sunday School and Ladies Aid meetings. LADIES AID Annual Report 2000 The Ladies Aid of St. Paul's reports a successful year. Through the year, we donated monies to the Church, the Bible Society, to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and to the Caring Cupboard. We meet the third Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. in the Common Room in St. Paul's Court. We would be very happy to have any ladies of the church join us for an afternoon of worship and fellowship. During the year, we lost two of our members: Flora, who passed away and Muriel, who moved to a Nursing Home in Strathroy. In June, our President Mary entertained our group in her home. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. One of our very active members, Mabel , celebrated her 90th birthday in September. On October 17, some of us went on a short trip to Paris for lunch at the Victorian Tea Room. A very warm welcome awaits any ladies who would join us.

Church, came to Cardston April 25, 1897. Born in New
Brunswick, he was educated at Dalhousie College and
had charges at Brookfield, N.S. and Dalhousie, N.B.
Throat trouble forced his resignation from the latter and
he came west for his health. He located at Macleod
September 5, 1891 and took charge of the Presbyterian
Church at that place. His predecessor had a congregation
of only 5 people. In the first six months, Rev. Hamilton
collected only 50 dollars from his pastorate. He had to do the janitor work. The next year he collected $646.00, and the following year $1200.00. At the end of the first six months his congregation had grown from five to ninety, and attendance thereafter averaged 100. When he came to Cardston a lot was bought from Sterling Williams and a manse was completed by December I897. The church was finished by June 1898, and is now (1978) a private home east of the manse.
