61. Tyrvännön Joulu 1999, Vermasvuori
Skotlantilainen John Pinkerton (17581826) tutustui Hermelinin kartastoon heti 1800-luvunalussa, mahdollisesti 1803, jolloin Vermasvuoren maiseman piirtänyt

Sampo Honkala VERMASVUORI ELI ILMOLAN MÄKI - UNOHDETTU KANSALLISMAISEMA Peruskartan lehdeltä 2132 08 löytyy yksi Hämeen ja aikoinaan koko Suomen tunnetuimmista näköalapaikoista - Vermasvuori. Kirjassaan Häme vuodelta 1908 kuvailee F.O.Rapola Vermasvuoren näköalaa seuraavalla tavalla: "Seudun korkein kohta on Vermasvuori Hauhon, Pälkäneen ja Tyrvännön rajalla.

Prior to the 1740's circa 1000
The task of coming to understand the earliest accounts and interpretations of America’s geographies, whether prior to or following initial encounters between Native Americans and Europeans, and whether such accounts are written or cartographic, is fraught with difficulties that include issues associated with evidence and issues involving the very epistemologies individuals bring to interpreting the seemingly same geographic situation. Differences in the conceptualization and meaning of geographic features (neighborhoods, rivers, towns, etc.) and in the relationships among them in conceptual and bio-physical environmental spaces, are often so great among groups as to preclude meaningful communication.
In geography as in other intellectual domains, such differences can readily lead to one group being dismissive of another’s capacity to contribute to its understanding. Historically, one finds this occurring not only between Europeans (and Euro-Americans) and Native Americans, but also between Europeans and Americans and between Americans and Americans, both during and between time periods. It happens every day in the simple act of asking directions when one is lost. Not withstanding such difficulties, geographic interpretations of this world have been offered, acted upon, recreated, and reinterpreted by Native Americans since their arrival here, in somewhat different ways since the initial Native American-European encounters, whether by Norsemen circa 1000 or by Christopher Columbus in 1492-1504, and in still different ways by each of us today.

Although this map is much larger in scale and published 6 years later than Arrowsmith and Lewis', it still is lacking modern features in the Southwest. The Santa Cruz River is not even depicted. However, the Verde River is correctly named and delineated. Pinkerton (1758-1826) was a geographer and publisher in Edinburgh and is noted for a number of geography books and atlases.

    WASHINGTON
... The 1960s by Timothy P. Maga Eyewitness History Series: Facts on File) Whether they voted for John F. Kennedy or not, most Americans were ready for a change in 1960. From politics to the entertainment industry, both the country’s leaders and followers sought new directions, heroes, and missions. Kennedy served as the first leader of this uncharted path to the “New Frontier,” and for a while it seemed like anything was possible, from the end of racism and poverty to an American on the Moon. Reality soon suggested something different. The 1960s covers all aspects of this explosive and exciting decade, including the Cuban Missile Crisis; the assassinations of John F. and Robert Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; the Vietnam War; popular culture icons such as the Beach Boys, Beatles, and Rolling Stones; Hippies; Yippies; race riots; and many other topics. The 1960s , a new addition to Facts On File ’s critically acclaimed Eyewitness History series, provides hundreds of firsthand accounts of the period from letters, speeches, and newspaper accounts—that illustrate how important historical events appeared to those who lived through them. In addition to these firsthand accounts, each chapter provides an introductory essay and a chronology of events.
