Cemetery Readings
Sally Morrison and children, died 1799, 1792, 1798, Rockingham, VT
Introduction
The Rich Hill U. P. Church and cemetery is located in Washington Township approximately 2 miles south of Volant, PA, on Route 168. This reading was compiled in 1997. Any comments within brackets [ ] are my own and not actually engraved on the tombstones. Names which are grouped together without a completely blank line separating them indicates that they are engraved on the same stone. At times I found it difficult to read the engravings, so I occasionally referred to Dwight Edward Copper's 1989 reading (which I didn't know existed until last year). The Lawrence County Courthouse has death records Dec. 1893 - Dec. 1905 from which I transcribed all the information I could find concerning those buried at the Rich Hill Church Cemetery. If someone died between those dates and is buried at the cemetery but I have no record listed for that person, it means that there is no record for that person. For more information about Lawrence County death records, see my

large cemetery has been used by residents of three townships: Henrietta, Brownhelm and
Vermilion in Erie County for over 160 years. The first burials were of two young daughters
family for an addition to the burial ground, and other additions were made in 1878 and
1888, so that this is now the largest cemetery in the township. Records for North Ridge or Brownhelm Cemetery: c/o Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St,

The collection was created and maintained by Wilbur F. Piper of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Piper was a Sergeant with the 114th during World War I and was largely responsible for the activities of the association for fifteen years. As such, the association papers reflect his activities. Mr. Piper produced the association's newsletter, alerted members of upcoming events and informed the membership of the annual meetings. He also served as the treasurer, receiving membership dues, recording paid members and reminding members to renew their membership. The last reunion organized by Mr. Piper was held September 6, 1975. Mr. Piper became ill and died in the early part of 1976. The reunion association was not continued after his death.
