When used by authors, a pseudonym is also called a pen name or (in French) nom de plume. This is an English expression: in France, such an alias is more commonly termed a nom de guerre, or "name of war". When used by actors, performers, or models, a pseudonym is also called a stage name (or sometimes "screen name")

    http://www.manuscripts.co.uk/stock/20775.HTM
    OUIDA
Collection of Autograph Letters Signed ('Ouida') to Lady Anna Chandos Pole, comprising thirty-nine letters, mostly with envelopes, 1883-1886 where dated. A fine correspondence covering a wide range of subjects. The sequence is as follows: 1883 (1 letter), 1884 (3), 1885 (5), 1886 (1) and undated (29).
Ouida settled permanently in Florence with her mother in 1874, and the present correspondence makes frequent references to places in Italy. Although the letters inevitably deal with social business, Ouida occasionally mentions her own writing as well as her opinions on royalty, politics and current affairs, along with mentions of visitors, the weather and day to day activities. Her effusive manner and sometimes prejudiced opinions figure strongly in these letters. '... Monsieur Capel is charming but like many charming people seems to be in a good deal of trouble. ...' [undated]
'... I suppose you have seen the absurd story about Capel and myself? The Press seems to do nothing but invent fictions about me. ...'
[November 1884] It is likely that Ouida is referring to Thomas John Capel, a Roman Catholic prelate suspended in 1882 due to general mismanagement of his scholastic offices, though the charges against him were later found to be not proven.

List of people known by one name
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
This is a list of people famous enough to be known unambiguously by one of the following:
    • A one word nickname (Shaq) A one word first name (Madonna) Their only known name (Aristotle) A one word stage name or pseudonym (Houdini) A one word pen name (Voltaire)
The reason for such distinctions is that countless artists, composers, philosophers, politicians, writers, scientists and sports figures are known for their last name (e.g. Mozart Shakespeare Hitler , etc.). It is quite common and regular for last names to be used to identify historic and pop culture figures. It is another thing all together to be known uniquely within the criteria listed above. Note that this list does not include fictional characters , such as Gandalf (from J. R. R. Tolkien 's Middle-earth books) or Neo (from the movie The Matrix ). See List of fictional people known by one name for a list of such people. Note also that most names in the list will be unusual since common names are likely to be ambiguous and to need a context. This list is incomplete . You can help Wikipedia by adding to it

Among the earliest writers living in Suffolk was Jocelin of Brakelond (?1155-?1202), who is so important to our understanding of medieval life. He was born in Bury St Edmunds in part of the town now known as Brackland. He entered the Abbey as a monk in 1173 and his chronicle of the years 1174-1202 is a fresh and lively account of the medieval monk's life with its tensions, quarrels and political intrigue, a true-life Brother Cadfael. The great Norman tower is certainly the one which Jocelin's Abbot Samson passed through for his installation. The vigorous portrait of this great reforming abbot, written by Jocelin in his Chronicle , inspired Thomas Carlyle to write about him in Past and Present (1843). What is left of the Abbey can be seen in the Abbey Gardens and a Visitor's Centre gives information on its history. At certain times of the year tours are led by a costumed guide in the form of Brother Jocelin himself! There is a good translation of Brakelond's
