CA-1, Camden Cemetery,
Camden Twp, Lorain County, Ohio Transcribed from Lorain County's out-of-print publication, Cemetery Inscriptions of Lorain County, Ohio 1980, pps., 137-151, by volunteer, Bob Johnson, July, 2000.
Corrections and/or additions to the original publication are printed in red. The cemetery is located on the north side of US 20 between SR 511 and Gifford Rd. The township was organized in 1835, and in 1837 a meeting was called for the purpose of establishing a cemetery. The trustees then purchased an acre of land from Thomas sigsworth. This land was fenced and lotted off, one lot being assigned to each resident of the township who was the head of a family. The first death was that of Minerva Waugh, wife of Gideon, in 1833. Burial records are held by Camden Cemetery, Camden Township Clerk, 51257 Betts Road, Wellington OH 44090. Phone: (440) 775-2015, or email Marilyn Ellingsworth at

Where do authors get their story ideas?
Jules Verne (1828-1905) is often cited as the "father of science fiction," a distinction sometimes shared by H.G. Wells (1866-1946). Biographers and scholars of Verne have pointed out that he was not the first person to describe voyages to the moon or travel under the sea aboard a submarine. However, his stories were the first to achieve international acclaim and popularity. This same popularity served to popularize the ideas within the books as well. Verne's " Vingt milles lieues sous les mers " was first published in the Magasin d'education et de recreation as a magazine serial (20 Mar 1869 - 20 Jun 1870). It was published in two volumes within Verne's Voyages Extraordinares in 1870 and 1871. The story was translated by Lewis Mercier and published in England and the United States in late-November 1872. The date on the title pages for these editions was 1873. It was one of several stories which became the inspiration to science fiction writers, including

    INTRODUCTION
to top This Bibliography was born out of the belief of the Friends of Casco Bay and the Casco Bay Estuary Project that one of the most effective ways to en courage public stewardship of Casco Bay is by increasing the public's knowledge of all aspects of the Bay. We see it as a tool to help people who are interested in the Bay to learn more about it. It is intended to be a point of entry rather than an exhaustive compilation - many old and technical references have been omitted. Our hope is that the Bibliography for Casco Bay will be used by the in formed general reader who wishes to increase his or her awareness of the chara cteristics of Casco Bay and the issues facing it and is willing to deal with material of some technical difficulty.
