Birth records in Galbally, Ireland Magner/Henneberry/Coveny/Fruin Connections It would seem that Thomas Magner (1827-1891) is the son of James Magner and Margaret Fruin. Elizabeth Fruin, the wife of Thomas (1829-1893) should be related to Margaret Fruin, the wife of James Magner. Thomas and Elizabeth lived in a large plantation style home in Wilmington. The house was later used as a funeral home for over fifty years. Research indicates the Thomas Magner family first settled in Naugatuck, about 4 miles south of Waterbury, CT and then moved to Will and Grundy Counties, IL. Waterbury, CT

ISSUE 36: CHRISTMAS 2001
JAZZ LEGEND JAMS AT KES
Jazz legend Don Rendell, who played with the Stan Kenton band in the 1950’s, visited KES on the 5 th of December having played with the ‘Eddie Seales Big Band’ (which includes Mr. Dixon from the Music department) the night before. He gave a masterclass to an audience of ‘A’ level and GCSE Music students and woodwind players. Several students from Springwood High School were also present, Mr. Dixon told us. After going through his career, Don (now aged 75) spoke about jazz improvisation and worked with a number of saxophone, flute and clarinet players. He played 2 jazz classics ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘Mood Indigo’ with a backing band made up of Graham Godfrey on drums, Andrew Carter on guitar, and Jack Dixon on bass. The main message he had for the students was that the key to success is practice: hours spent on scales and arpeggios. After a photo call and autographs, the legend left the building…. th FORM BRAVE THE COLD FOR CHARITY SLEEPOUT Over the weekend of the 7 th and 8 th of December, 26 students and 4 staff spent a bitterly cold night in the sports hall car park, getting a taste of what life is like for homeless people over the Christmas period. The charity ‘Crisis at Christmas’ was being supported. Mr. Steer was accompanied by several doughty staff, including Miss Jones and Mr. Kyd. Mr. Maclean came along for moral support during an uncomfortable but cold experience for all involved.

Y., is of Pilgrim stock. She commenced her career as an authoress by writing letters to the editors of "The New Mirror," and using the alliterative nom de plume of "Grace Greenwood." The brilliant letter-writer, who wrote [p.204] also earnest, impassioned poetry, became at once a favorite, and such she has continued to be. A volume of her prose writings, called "Greenwood Leaves," was published in 1850, and a volume of "Poems" in 1851, followed by a book for children called "My Pets." She has also published a book called "Haps and Mishaps of a Tour in Europe." In later years she has been successfully active as a lecturer and reader, and is now in Europe, writing readable letters to "The New York Times," which are eagerly perused all over the land. She is verifying her own words,— "Oh, no! I never will grow old
