Consistent with Macleod's policy to publish Amerindian and Chicano poetry, Pembroke Magazine number 2 (1970) contains work by Ray Young Bear and Simon J. Ortiz. The fifty-six-page magazine also contains work by Hugh MacDiarmid, Guy Owen, and Ronald H. Bayes. Pembroke Magazine number 3 (1971) is twice as large as the previous issue. It includes a West Indian anthology and features the work of Ortiz. William Stafford, Daniel Hoffman, Philip Levine, and Robert McAlmon also contribute poems. In Pembroke Magazine number 4 (1973) editor Macleod begins his memoirs, "I Never Lost Anything in Istanbul." The issue concentrates on work by native Americans. Macleod notes that UNC Pembroke from which Pembroke Magazine originates, began as a normal school for Indians. Number 4 contains work by Grey Cohoe, Ortiz, and Duane Niatum. Other contributors are Brom Weber, Millen Brand, and Sonja Prins, European editor or Front , published in Holland in 1930 and 1931. Pembroke Magazine number 5 (1974) runs to 152 pages. Contributors include Carl Rakosi, Georgia O'Keeffe, and W. S. Graham. The feature of number 5 is Kay Boyle, one of many American writers in Paris during the period of the so-called Lost Generation.

The Creative Spirit Newsletter November 20, 2003 Hello TCS Members, For this American Thanksgiving week we have photo contributions from our member, Dave Grant . The above applet is made from some of his fine pumpkin images (go slowly over the applet for it has many photos) and the other fall scenes you see here are also his. To complete the mood, we have a few lovely poems from various poets. The last poem is from our member, Joan Adams Burchell , and it bestows the truest meaning of Thanksgiving: giving thanks for our many blessings. Thank you, Joan. Blessings.... Cheyenne
The Pumpkin Ah! on Thanksgiving day, when from East and from West,
From North and from South comes the pilgrim and guest;
When the gray-haired New Englander sees round his board
The old broken links of affection restored;

Spiritwalk Library Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.net Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of FREE electronic books (eBooks or eTexts). It intends to put as many books on-line as possible and to gather these on line works into one central location. It is a terrific service of the University of Illinois.
Project Gutenberg is the brainchild of Michael Hart, who in 1971 decided that it would be a really good idea if lots of famous and important texts were freely available to everyone in the world. Since then, he has been joined by hundreds of volunteers who share his vision. Now, more than thirty years later, Project Gutenberg has the following figures (as of November 8th 2002): 203 New eBooks released during October 2002, 1975 New eBooks produced in 2002 (they were 1240 in 2001) for a total of 6267 Total Project Gutenberg eBooks. 119 eBooks have been posted so far by Project Gutenberg of Australia

The Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving
(Edgar Albert Guest, 1881-1959)
It may be I am getting old and like too much to dwell
Upon the days of bygone years, the days I loved so well;
But thinking of them now I wish somehow that I could know
A simple old Thanksgiving Day, like those of long ago,
When all the family gathered round a table richly spread,
With little Jamie at the foot and grandpa at the head,
The youngest of us all to greet the oldest with a smile,
With mother running in and out and laughing all the while.
It may be I'm old-fashioned, but it seems to me to-day We're too much bent on having fun to take the time to pray; Each little family grows up with fashions of its own; It lives within a world itself and wants to be alone. It has its special pleasures, its circle, too, of friends; There are no get-together days; each one his journey wends, Pursuing what he likes the best in his particular way
