Can anyone tell me how the spot called Swamp Angel that is east of Manhattan got its name? Many thanks. DATE: 15 JUL 1998
NAME: Gwen Adams Cail
SURNAME: ADAMS/ADDAMS
In reviewing the "List of Pensioners" I noted a Joseph Adams - certificate No. 218,910 - who injured his left ankle and was receiving $2.00 per month. My great-grandfather was a Joseph ADAMS (ADDAMS). He was born in Pennsylvania 15 Sep 1847. I haven't been able to locate his parentage or what happened to him after his second marriage to a Helen Fisher - 30 Apr 1883 in Elkader, Clayton Co., IA. My Joseph ADAMS has two children born in Sheridan Township, Ottawa, KS. I don't know whether the pensioner, Joseph, is related to me or not. If you have information on this Joseph ADAMS would you please share it with me, so I can determine if this is my ancestor. Thank you. DATE: 22 JUN 1998

The History of Keeseville, N. Y.
This is an etching of old Keeseville Industries. Circa 1880. ( ). There was also a Title: "When Iron Was King at Keeseville" As I learn more about Keeseville through this project, I will be able to identify more buildings in this etching. In the upper right is the well know "Stone Arch Bridge", and in the background to the left is a church. This was the First Congregational Church. circa 1852, located on 1746 Main Street. It is still standing, now the Ausable River Lodge No. 149. Some of the other structures are The Ausable Horse Nail Company buildings (1847), Old Brewery (c.1850), etc.
Due to the responses generated by these pages, I have started a Keeseville Bulletin Board ......ROD 1/27/99 More history of Keeseville can be found on Pages.......................ROD.....11/21/2000 jabaill@uswest.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~baillargeon/keeseville/ I recently received , by Roswell Stephen Frichette. was born in Keeseville in 1895, and the first two chapters of his memoir are about Keeseville when he was a boy.

Silverton Cemetery
Silverton, Marion County, Oregon
This cemetery is very lovely and pretty old (at least for the west coast). I absolutely love it and really enjoyed transcribing it. It is located in Silverton, on Silverton Rd.
I transcribed and photographed this cemetery Feb. thru Apr. of 2002. Every visible stone has been accounted for, though there could be other burials with no markings. I've tried not to make any mistakes while typing out these names, but if anything looks questionable please email me . I have put a lot of work into this. Please feel free to use this for your personal research, but please do not reproduce it or claim it as your own. Thank you!

Combined Inscriptions, many without dates
Jacob Gardner Boydstun
James Gardner Boydstun and his family, together with members of the Holland, Ground, and Lowe families, and perhaps others, migrated from Barren and Warren Counties in Kentucky to Abington, Knox County, Illinois. Texas, in 1833. The group left on Boydstun's wedding day to Drusilla Ground, 27 August 1833. After a disappointing decade in Illinois, members of the same families in 1848 moved to Texas. The trip took 6 weeks by river and wagon.
When they arrived in the Dallas area, the men took out south to choose land available for claim under the conditions of Peters Colony. The men were led by Texas Rangers who chained logs to their horses to flatten the grasses to allow passage. The prairie grasses grew as high as a man's head on horseback.
Boydstun's 640 acre claim is described by Roberta Dukes Richardson as containing "a large cedar break, a small range of hills that rose majestically from the rolling prairie, with a fertile valley watered by a stream that the Indians had named 'Mountain Creek.'" Its southern border extends by 23 acres into Ellis County with 617 acres in Dallas County. It is not far east of the Tarrant County line. This author found Roberta's description to be very accurate, but would add that the hillsides were spotted with blooming prickly pear cactus as well. Boydstun's claim is patented June 12, 1856, No. 345, Vol. 13.
The settlers' homes were built of cedar logs. With the passage of time, more rooms were added, halls and long porches, and better windows and doors replaced the old ones. The original Boydstun dwelling was named "the Big Room," where there occurred a triple wedding of three of Boydstun's daughters in 1867. But the old stone chimney of Boydtun's house remained unchanged, and weathered the ravages of time for 72 years until it was destroyed by fire in the year 1920.

General Introduction
The creation of history as a scholarly discipline has always depended on the discovery, preservation, and accessibility of primary sources. Some of the leading figures in the first generation of academic historians in the United States spent much of their time and energy on this endeavor and in so doing made possible the work of their colleagues who wrote monographs and general histories. The inventions of microfilm and photocopying have vastly improved access to such sources. At any given time the prevailing conceptions of what is significant in the past will determine which sources are sought and valued. When politics and diplomacy are the center of historians' concern, government documents, treaties, newspapers, and correspondence of political leaders and diplomats will be collected and made accessible. When intellectual history is ascendant, the works of philosophers and reflective thinkers will be studied, analyzed, and discussed. Economic historians will look for records of trade, evidence of price fluctuations, conditions of labor, and other kinds of data originally collected for business purposes. The propensity of modern governments to collect statistics has made possible whole new fields for historical analysis.

This is one of a series of files in a web-base finding aid to the many vital events recorded in the San Francisco Call during calendar years 1869-1897. Most events are for the San Francisco California area - births, marriages, and deaths. However many records are for events throughout California and beyond which were of interest to residents of San Francisco. Deaths at sea were also reported by the ships coming into the port of San Francisco.
This database will be gradually updated (Year by Year) until all of the information (we can find) that were lost in the 1906 earthquake and fire have been posted here. Thus it is suggested that you revisit this web database periodically To update information On your ancestors.
