Westport Country Playhouse, which had its biggest season in two decades last year when a revival of Our Town starring Paul Newman transferred to Broadway, has announced a 2003 slate featuring Noel Coward, Arthur Miller and James Naughton, the director who staged Our Town It was the casting coup of Paul Newman, of course, that put Westport back on the theatrical map. No actors have yet been named for the new schedule, but artistic director Joanne Woodward hinted about an Aug. 6-23 staging of Miller's All My Sons , "A wonderful consequence of producing a play that has juicy roles like these is the opportunity to work with some outstanding actors." Doug Hughes will direct the piece about a secretly guilty father and his two sons, one dead in WWII, one questioning the nature of the death. Naughton will direct The Good German by local playwright David Wiltse. The piece is another World War II drama for the Playhouse season, which seems to be addressing current events in Washington and Iraq. The play "tells the story of a couple who, against the objections of the husband, harbors a Jewish publisher under the nose of their Nazi friend. Dangerous circumstances force all concerned to examine attitudes of morality, hate, and human decency." It runs June 25-July 12. The season opens with one of Noel Coward's classic comedies

The Firefly sparks the Lyric Theatre with music by Rudolf Friml and lyrics and book by Otto Harbach. This tale of an Italian street singer who disguises herself as a boy to be near the wealthy man she loves stars Emma Trentini, Craig Campbell, and Audrey Maple. Impersonation, yet again. This time Laurette Taylor's character in One Night in Rome impersonates a fortune-teller, L'Enigme, who forces a young man to discover he is in love with her. J. Hartley Manners created this role specifically for Taylor, his wife. The Student Prince opens at the Jolson Theatre in New York. The show, based on the play Old Heidelberg, has a book and lyrics by Dorothy Donnelly with a score by Sigmund Romberg. Tunes include the "Drinking Song." In the story, a prince falls in love with a waitress. It stars Howard Marsh and Ilse Marvenga. Actress Julie Harris is born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She earns fame and respect later in The Member of the Wedding and The Belle of Amherst

As a writer/storyteller, I was captivated by this review of Ong's life-long endeavor to bring back the vocal word to the culture. Farrel's inclusion of other familiar proponents of the evolution of human consciousness (Buber, Chardin, Cargas) and noted contemporaries such as John Bradshaw, gave this lay person a feeling of comfort among scholarly dialogue. Ong's acceptance of modern technology, such as TV, gives credence to his "ordinary language philosophy." The focus of Farrell's study, is ...

87. A Férfi, Aki Virágot Hord A Szájában
korábban a WGY elnevezésû, new yorki rádióállomásról sugározták a Királynõfutárja címû melodrámát, J. Hartley Manners tollából, de Baird
http://www.telehor.c3.hu/bevezeto/pirandello.html
"Baird állandóan saját tökéletlen médiumának határterületeit vizsgálta, egyik kísérletet folytatva a másik után, sokkal inkább egy mûvész szenvedélyével, mintsem egy tudós
körültekintésével."
Asa Briggs: The Golden Age of Wireless.

Gielgud és Sieveking megrendeltek néhány speciális, festett háttérfüggönyt C.R.W. Nevinsonól, ami a Baird-rendszer 30 soros felbontását tekintve merõ optimizmusnak bizonyult (a modern tévé 625 sorral "dolgozik").
A próba közeledtével a két Gielgud lebetegedett, ezért a helyükre Earl Gray (a Férfi) és Lional Millard (a Vendég) ugrott be. A sajátos make-up-ot Gray "különösen természetellenesnek" érezte és – nem meglepõ módon – nagyon zavarta a villogó fénysugár. Ez volt az elsõ használata egy speciális tévé make-up-nak.

Thomas W Lamb As an actor's ambition was to play in a legitimate Broadway house, and a vaudeville performer's to 'play the Palace,' a producer's ambition was to have a hit on the Great White Way. John Cort was, like Martin Beck, a successful theater operator on the West Coast. On arriving in New York he commissioned Lamb to bring his version of Versailles' Petit Trianon, one of the most beautiful and most copied buildings in the world, to Broadway. Lamb's elegantly simple neoclassical exterior accomplishes what the French original did: cloak a dramatically-detailed, lavish interior. The Versailles theme is reinforced by a mural of a dance in the Palace's gardens The theater's premier production, J Hartley Manners'

Hartley Manners wonderful character "PEG" in Oliver Morosco's Production of the Comedy "PEG O' MY HEART" at the CORK THEATRE N.Y. Dedicated to the Star MISS LAURETTE TAYLOR 1. Oh! my heart's in a whirl, Over one little girl, I love her, I love her, yes, I do, Altho' her heart is far away, I hope to make her mine some day, Ev'ry beautiful rose, ev'ry violet knows, I love her, I love her fond and true, And her heart fondly sighs, as I sing to her eyes, Her eyes of blue, Sweet eyes of blue, my darling! REFRAIN 2 times Peg O' My Heart, I love you, We'll never part, I love you, dear little girl, Sweet little girl, Sweeter than the rose of Erin, are your winning smiles endearin', Peg O' My Heart, Your glances with Irish art entrance me, Come, be my own, Come, make your home in my heart. 2. When your heart's full of fears, And your eyes full of tears, I'll kiss them, I'll kiss them all away; For, like the gold that's in your hair, Is all the love for you I bear, O, believe in me, do, I'm as lonesome as you, I miss you, I miss you all the day, Let the light of live shine from your eyes into mine, And shine for aye, Sweetheart for aye, my darling! The trepidation was caused by the fact that I wasn’t that crazy about the first Matrix , and I’d heard that this one was a letdown even for fans of its predecessor. What can I say? The quasi-Eastern, obsessed-with-cool world of filmmakers Larry and Andy Wachowski, in which fear of and fascination with technology are inextricably linked, just doesn’t speak to me. The possibility that what we experience as the real world may just be a devious computer program isn’t anywhere near the top of my list of worries, and both Matrix movies gum up whatever fun they offer with a lot of humorless philosophical mumbo-jumbo and incoherent plotting.
