The Scottish Sale 30th October 2003 The Assembly Rooms, George Street, Edinburgh Sale at 2pm Christie's Scottish Sale, held in Edinburgh was a resounding success totalling £1,831,706. Once again illustrating the continuing allure of Colourist pictures, top prices were paid for works by Cadell and Peploe. With the final sale total doubling pre-sale expectations, the auction was 87% sold by value and 76% sold by lot - highlighting the current strength of the Scottish picture market. Laura Lindsay, Director and specialist in charge of The Scottish Sale: "Today's Scottish Sale in the national capital was a resounding success. Once again illustrating the continuing allure of Colourist pictures, top prices were paid for works by Cadell and Peploe, and the sale in its entirety doubled our pre-sale expectations, totalling £1.83 million. We were particularly delighted with a single-owner collection of sporting art, featuring works by Thorburn, Lodge and Harrison, which totalled £276,000. Bernard Williams, Director of Christie's Scotland, conducted the auction in a crowded and enthusiastic saleroom, with busy phone bidders and a live link to London ensuring that international collectors were able to compete with ease. Today's sale highlights the current strength of the Scottish picture market - a market Christie's continues to lead, both here in Scotland and internationally. We look forward to our next sale of Scottish pictures, to be held in London on 4 March 2004."
