June 22 ~  Sing With Passion Look Great at Any Age
F l o w e r s are the sweetest things that God ever made, and f o rg o t to put a soul onto." ~ Henry Ward Beecher Dried flowers are everlasting flowers. In the late 19th century, les immortelles, flowers grown specifically for drying, were used to create bouquets d'hiver, arrangements for the winter. The simplest way to preserve flowers is to air-dry them. Roses, lavender, and hydrangeas air-dry exceptionally well by hanging them upside down. You can also flat dry the flowers on racks, upright-dry, garden dry, or oven-dry. The best time to harvest flowers for drying is when they are one-half to three-quarters of the way open. "Ah, the smell of flowers. I've just put flowers in a vase," praised writer Helen Caldicott. "The meaning of life is the flowers in the vase." Gathering and pressing blossoms are part of a long tradition, a romantic and magical way to save a memory, to create immortality. The thinner a flower or plant, the easier it is to press... Oak and maple leaves, poppies , and pansies are excellent . Pressed flowers create beautiful cards , pictures, and decorative frames or candles.

AMHERST

DEATH OF MRS W.A. DICKINSON
An Old and Honored Resident of Am-
herst, Who Was Also Widely Honored Abroad.
(May 12, 1913) Mrs. Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson, widow of William Austin Dickinson, died at her home, the Evergreens , in Amherst yesterday, in her 83rd year, from heart disease. She had been seriously ill for a number of weeks, and for several days her life has been slowly, peacefully fading away. She was a woman of rare quality and truly a distinguished citizen of the town, who had made her home for many years one of the notable features of the community. She had undoubtedly entertained at her board more men and women of distinction in the world of literature and affairs than any other householder in the place. She had lived in Amherst from the time of her marriage in 1857 [ sic Mrs. Dickinson was born in Deerfield in 1830, the daughter of Thomas and Harriet Huntington Arms Gilbert. She was the youngest of seven children, none of whom survive her. She lived as a girl, after her mother's death, with her aunt, Mrs. William Van Vranken, at Geneva, N.Y.

The Limits of Sisterhood: The Beecher Sisters on Women's Rights and Woman's Sphere . Univer. of North Carolina Press. 1988. From Publisher's Weekly - "This is a fascinating account of the three Beecher sisters, participants in the debate concerning women's rights that emerged in the wake of the Civil War. As the authors deftly demonstrate, the siblings influenced each other throughout their lives, and shared a commitment to female power, although their visions often differed. Daughters of the eminent minister Lyman Beecher, they inherited his call to actively promote social justice as well as his desire for prominence in society."

Lagrange point
A position between Earth and the moon at which a body will remain approximately at rest relative to the two larger bodies. Of the five Lagrange points (L-1 through L-5), only the fourth and fifth are truly stable (stationary). Positioning a satellite or station at one of these two points enables it to stay relatively motionless above a specific location on Earth. The Lagrange points are named after their discoverer, Italian-French mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange (1736–1813).

Now, I want to know - what books have influenced you or were important to you in some way(outside of your own religion's book - be it the Bible, the Koran, the Book of Morman, etc.)? Here is a short list of books that I love: The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinsky> This one hit me like a ton of bricks. I highly recommend it to everyone. I read it in 1974 - 30 years ago - and the story has always stayed with me.
