    http://www.hauntedriver.co.uk/music.htm
About Me (Music, Writers and Film) Evelyn Waugh - The greatest modern novelist to have put pen to paper. Beautiful prose style, waspish sense of humour, haunting evocation of a bygone decadent age. The only novelist who's work I can read again and again. Best novels: The thoughtful and faithful 1980s television adaptation of 'Brideshead Revisited' was very sympathetically scripted by John Mortimer and starred John Gielgeud, Laurence Olivier and Jeremy Irons. Bram Stoker (1847-1912) - Dracula Apparently the second most widely-read book ever after the Bible, Stoker's novel (originally titled 'The Undead') is as unquestionably brilliant as it has been influential. Of major irritation is the fact that highbrow literary critics continually underestimate its importance. Deeply-layered sexual tensions embedded within a fantastically well-researched horror novel (unlike Stoker's other novels, which vary between average and turgid). One chapter was withdrawn by the publisher - 'Dracula's Guest' - but it was subsequently added to later editions. This missing chapter shamelessly copies a scene from Le Fanu's 'Carmilla'. * Whilst Coppola's film version of Dracula does have its moments, I would strongly recommend the superior BBC adaptation starring Louis Jordain, upon which Coppola's adaptation was based anyhow.

Ellen Stewart will direct the original staging by Wilford Leach.
