Raised in California, he later studied law and practiced in San Francisco, where he entered Democratic politics and served as city and county attorney. His unsuccessful campaigns for governor of California (1902) and mayor of San Francisco (1903) won national attention, and in 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt appointed him to the Interstate Commerce Commission, on which he sat until 1913, serving briefly as chairman in 1913. As Secretary of the Interior under President Wilson, he was a conservationist. He sought to increase the independence of the Native Americans. He promoted self-government in Alaska and sponsored the Alaska RR from Seward to Fairbanks to tap the interior. See his letters (ed. by his wife, Anne W. Lane, and L. H. Wall, 1922).

In 1776, 13 British colonies on the eastern seaboard of northern America declared their independence from Great Britain, joining in a "perpetual confederation of independent states, to be known as the United States of America". After Great Britain, by the Treaty of Paris of 1783, had recognised the independence of the new state, a federal constitution was adopted and a central government was established in 1789. (1) (1) The thirteen colonies which declared their independence in 1776 were : Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia With the exception of North Carolina and Rhode Island - who only did so later - they all ratified the federal constitution before its coming in to effect in 1789. In the course of the following years new states - carved out of territories or annexed to the U.S. after 1776 - were added to the Union.

Lakeside Memorial Lawn Cemetery and Veterans Cemetery Folsom, California This cemetery is located on the highway between Highway 50 and the City of Folsom. The first 185 names were copied in 1969 and at that time, a large portion of the markers had tall grass growing around them and there was evidence that there had been animals in the area. Many markers were very old and some were broken. The information from the remainder of the markers was copied in 1973 and the cemetery at that time had been cleaned well and some graves were in the process of being moved. It appears that Generation 3 and down is being slowly documented This was the story I have received from others that I have been seeking documentation on. After not receiving any documents from others I have been searching in vain to find something to confirm this. It is still unconfirmed and the now appears even less likely. Apparently John Wrigley was the father of Epsy Wrigley who became the first wife of my ancestor Thomas Wrigley. He returned to England to collect an inheritance and was killed in an accident in Liverpool Supposedly in the late 1930's many of the Wrigley Descendants (including my family) was contacted about their share of a large Wrigley Estate in England and the attorneys for the estate were searching for heirs. Because of the War none of the funds could be transferred out of England. Several families have a similar story.
