Alt Hendriks Liemburg 17 mei 1880 - 13 september 1929 In de genealogie van onze familie hebben enkele grietenijen en een bevolkingsgroep een belangrijke rol gespeeld. De grietenijen zijn Smallingerland, Ooststellingwerf, Aengwirden , Opsterland, Haskerland Schoterland en Utingeradeel. De bevolkingsgroep zijn de Gietersen (Giethoorn). Smallingerland: De stamvader van de familie Liemburg, in rechte lijn, is geboren in Oostermeerderveen rond 1625 en gedoopt op zondag 28 januari 1655 in de Hervormde kerk te Oudega. Hij trouwde in 1650 in Opeinde met Tjitske Andries, dochter van Andries Aebeles, die 1625 in Oudega was geboren. Zij vestigden zich in Opeinde en kregen 5 kinderen. Later verhuisden onze voorouders naar Noorderdragten. Rond 1780 vestigden ze zich aan de Oudeweg in Gersloot, in de grietenij Aengwirden.

Age of Wonders If you ever wanted to take part in your favorite epic fantasy sage here's your chance. Have you ever connected with a novel so much that you could predict where the plot was heading and how the characters would develop? I'm not talking about a predictable story. No, what I'm referring to is that unique occurrence when it feels like you were the one who wrote the book, and that connection you experience with the author almost as if you were both of one mind. While it's rare to find in novels it's even rarer to find in a computer game. The last game for me that I "connected" with was Half-Life, and even then I lost the association when Valve took us to Xen. Well, I can now say that there is a game that I feel truly connected to throughout playing; Age of Wonders. Age of Wonders is a turn based fantasy game comparable to the Warlords and Heroes of Might and Magic series. In fact, there's really no way you can talk about Age of Wonders without mentioning those two series. Furthermore, if you really want to make some comparisons, don't forget to mention Lords of Magic, Master of Magic, Fantasy General and about a dozen wargames. In the hands of a team that didn't care, such a mixture would surely yield at best, an awful conglomeration, and at worst a Frankenstein-like clone. It's therefore obvious that Triumph and Epic had a clear vision of what they wanted, and like a well trained gourmet chef, they've taken a mixture of ingredients and blended them together to create a rich fantasy feast.

One of the most common mantras chanted in the computer game industry is if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. It should then come to no one's surprise that Activision decided to once again attempt a remake of the classic Sid Meier/Brian Reynolds Civilization series. Call to Power II is the sequel (in the loosest sense of the word) of 1999's Civilization: Call to Power. Astute readers will note that the word "civilization" has been dropped. If you remember there was a huge legal hassle between Activision and Microprose over the use of the word (ironically both Call to Power and Microprose's Civilization II remake were hardly worthy of bearing the Civilization name) and so now the only reference to the original Civilization found in Call to Power II is in the actual gameplay. Right now you probably have two burning questions. The first, is this a better game than the original Call to Power and the second, is Call to Power II another pretender to the throne? Answering the former is fairly easy while the latter isn't as simple. Call to Power II is essentially what the first game should have been. Not a true sequel, it manages to correct the majority of the deficiencies present in the first game while adding a few new rubs into the mix. The very first thing you'll notice is the clean new interface. Whereas before the player had to toggle through panel after panel in search of the most basic information Call to Power II's wheel based interface makes everything a snap. Information is divided up logically, the windows are attractive and easy to comprehend, and you'll never be forced down a one way path (such as the first game's great library).

Commandos 3: Destination Berlin With varied missions, nice visuals, and an awesome musical score Commandos 3 is a game you very much want to enjoy, but in the end there are too many issues to keep you from fully feeling satisfied. Sequels tend to be the bread and butter of the computer gaming world. After all, publishers are in it to make money and so why take chances on something new when you already have a proven seller at hand? Just slap a Roman numeral at the end of the title and presto, another hit. With sequels so common there are certain expectations gamers have when dealing with them. You expect the sequel to have better technology, sport new gameplay elements, address previous series complaints, and in general provide a superior experience than the previous versions. Using this logic Pyro Studios’ Commandos 3: Destination Berlin , being the third in the series, should be a polished masterpiece and yet instead it feels more like an expansion pack to the very first Commandos game. Yes, that’s right, it actually seems to take the series back, breaking all sequel expectations you may have.

If you ever caught me at three o'clock in the morning, with too much vodka in my system, and mentioned the state of the computer gaming industry I'd probably launch into a rant until the sun came up and you were already fast asleep. The sum of my rant would be that big business, which is usually bad in any state, is really bad when it comes to gaming. Too often the big companies are looking to fill up their coffers, and do it in a number of questionable ways. Now, I do realize that big companies can also help a game's development, but remember, when I'm ranting it's the wee hours of the morning and I've had too many adult beverages. Recently, a small on-line only publisher released a revised edition of WDK. If you owned the original version you got the new edition absolutely free. Then, here is 3DO releasing a revised edition of Heroes of Might and Magic III entitled Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death. This isn't a sequel, an expansion pack, or a "gold" edition. This is the original Heroes III with a few new campaigns and several enhancements. If you own the original you can get a ten dollar rebate, but that only lasts until the end of May. How can you not be cynical? For everyone who owns the original you probably don't feel like wading through an entire review just to find out if you should purchase this new version; you just want to know what's in it to justify your dollar. You get an amazing amount of gameplay, with seven new campaigns and thirty eight new scenarios. Game enhancements include moat damage, more neutral creatures (many of which have been brought back from Heroes II), a few changes to some unit statistics, and combination artifacts (once a number of individual artifacts are collected they can be combined into one mega-powerful, ass-kicking artifact). There are a few more alterations, like guarding mines with creatures, some new quests, and the ability to select campaign difficulty.

King of Dragon Pass A great thinking man's game for anyone who ever wanted to lead a tribe of Vikings. Back in the Dark Ages of computer gaming it was relatively easy to be surprised by a new game. After all, there was only one magazine dedicated to computer games, no demos, no previews, and advertisements were only for current games. You just didn't see two years worth of ads for a game (an idea I wouldn't mind seeing again). Now, as soon as the developer even thinks about creating a new game, fan sites pop up, a huge marketing campaign begins, and the media starts to throw out previews, interviews, and designer diaries. So when King of Dragon Pass made its way onto my desk I was intrigued. Here was a totally unknown game a definite surprise in today's world. Would it be a good surprise? King of Dragon Pass is an empire building game, albeit a small empire. Taking place in the world of Glorantha (specifically the area known as Dragon Pass) it is your task to lead your clan into becoming a tribe, in one of two possible game types. In the short game you must form a tribe, have one of your leaders become king or queen of that tribe, and have that leader remain as ruler for ten years, after which you will win the short game. In the long game you must unify all of Dragon Pass, becoming the King of Dragon Pass. You begin the game by answering a series of questions, reminiscent of creating a character for The Elder Scrolls. How you respond to the queries determines what type of clan you play. Who are your enemies? What is the clan best at? Who do you worship? Think of it as creating a character in a role-playing game, except instead of a single individual you're creating a body of individuals.

Well, they've finally done it. Someone has actually made a damn good Star Trek game. On top of the fact that it's a good Trek game it's actually a board game conversion that keeps most of the pen and paper rules intact. Yes, right about now you should look out your window to spy the pigs flying across the sky. Star Trek: Starfleet Command is the game every Trekkie has dreamed about since the first text based Trek games decades ago. Starfleet Command is a computer conversion of the classic board game Star Fleet Battles. If you're unfamiliar with Star Fleet Battles it is a number heavy tactical wargame of starship combat in the Trek universe. The number of rule supplements gives Advanced Squad Leader a run for the money, and with the tremendous amount of bookkeeping involved only a select few, such as CPAs and people who do trig for fun, could really get the most enjoyment out of the game. In other words it was the perfect game to translate from paper to silicon and Interplay has done a tremendous job in doing so. Sure, there are a few flies in the ointment, but not enough to dampen your love for this game. Forget the wimpy politically correct universe of the Next Generation, with its lame Borgs who fly around in a giant Rubik's Cube and Klingons who belong to the Federation. Starfleet Command is set in the classic Trek universe, with war hungry Klingons, crafty Romulans, and the Orion Pirate Cartel. You'll find a total of six playable races (though this is somewhat of a misnomer since the Federation is made up of several races): the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Hydrans, the Lyrans, and the Gorns. The Orion Pirates are non-playable and will freely fight any of the six groups.
