Republicans in Congress recently made headlines when they proposed replacing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the dime with President Ronald Reagan. Putting a living former president on a coin would constitute a serious break with tradition, and the proposal soon lost momentum after Nancy Reagan made her opposition known. We agree with the Republicans that it's time for a change in who is represented on our currency. But instead of Reagan, whose vision for America continues to divide the country, we propose an American whose tragic early death brought us together: Martin Luther King Jr.

Il y rencontre sa future femme Coretta Scott qui est étudiante au Conservatoire. Martin Luther King reçoit son doctorat théologie en 1955 et devient pasteur de l’église baptiste de Dexter Avenue à Montgomery en Alabama.

Martin Luther King Jnr (1929-1968)
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."(1) Martin Luther King Jr, the great civil rights leader, spoke these words on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, USA in August 1963 to a crowd of over 250,000 people who were demanding equal justice for all American citizens. Martin Luther King Jr was born in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in 1929 into a close-knit African-American Baptist family who had long been involved in civil rights. Although African-Americans transported to America as slaves had been freed when the Civil War ended in 1865 racism and segregation remained, especially in the southern states. As a boy Martin experienced racism and segregation in schools, restaurants and hospitals and on public transport and other public facilities. Many African-Americans were still denied the right to vote. Martin was an accelerated student graduating from his segregated school to Morehouse College at the age of fifteen Three years later he graduated with a BA degree in sociology and entered the Christian ministry because he believed this would give him a base from which to effect social change. He then went to Crozer Theological Seminary where he was influenced by the teaching of Mahatma Gandhi. He later said that from his background he gained his regulating Christian ideals and from Gandhi he learned his operational technique. He said that he found in the non-violent resistance philosophy of Gandhi the only morally and practically sound method open to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom.

Customer Reviews MLK: The Martin Luther King tapes is the first Audio CD I've ever purchased. I am a new student of our great orators, and Martin, from what I've read, is the best. One of my only regrets concerning Dr. King's speeches is that I haven't been able to hear them all as spoken by his eloquent, yet powerful oratory style. This Audio CD has eliminated my concern. I can now hear Dr. King anytime I want to at work. I feel like I'm right there, listening with his audience. If this product is any indication of what to expect from future Audio CD's by other great orators such as JFK, FDR, and even Winston Churchill, then count me in! The only reason for the four stars as opposed to five stars is due to the rudely shortened eulogy of Robert Kennedy during Dr. King's funeral. There should have been more of it.
