Imperniato sulla dialettica tra le cose di lassù e quelle terrene di quaggiù, tra l'uomo esteriore che si va disfacendo e l'uomo interiore che permane, l' Imitazione di Cristo non presenta naturalmente quelle sensibilità vive oggi, nei confronti della comunionalità ecclesiale, dell'impegno nella costruzione delle realtà terrene, della carità attuata nell'ottica della dottrina sociale della Chiesa.
