William Elmore (c.1760-1835)
William Elmore, in his own words If he could speak to us today, William Elmore might describe his life as follows.
The Lunenburg County tax ledger itemized me in my father’s household first in 1776, showing I was born in 1759 or 1760. A few years later our family moved to Charlotte County. Rev. Thomas Johnston officiated when I married Susannah Butler , daughter of John Butler, there on 20 July 1785. Susan, as her name sometimes appeared, and I sold out in Charlotte and went to Brunswick County in 1791, settling on Wildcat Creek. This was where my Grandfather Tarpley had lived, and we later bought part of the old plantation from his heirs. In 1800 we bought a piece of the William Pritchett farm east of Danieltown. Mary Elizabeth Pritchett, one of his pretty granddaughters, took our son James as her husband in 1807. The census takers counted Susan in my household in 1820, but she was gone by the time they came back in 1830. Although I named only 2 daughters in the brief will I made in 1835, census records show Susan and I had 10 children. When I died, I owned a bed and furniture, a gun, a pair of fire irons, a Bible, a chest, and 77 acres of land, valued 20 June 1835 at $99.12½.

71. Bio Of Sylvanus Pipes And The Missouri Migration
m. 06/03/1801 Elijah Jackman in Ky. 13 William Pipes b.06/01/1779 in N. Carolina or Virginia. Mo., m. Maston Lawless; 1-3-3 James Pipes b. 10/12/1802 in Ky.
http://www.pipesfamily.com/sylvanus.htm
Last updated 06/23/02 RJ Pipes Made several correction to grammar and punctuation. Corrected broken links at bottom of page. The Missouri Pipes Family William Pipes, oldest son of Sylvanus Pipes, appears to be the first of the family to move into the Missouri country from Kentucky. Howard County was the destination for William and his wife Sarah and they raised crops and children with great success as Sarah bore at least 7 offspring between 1810 and 1817. Family legend says that William and Sarah were cousins and this was the first clue that piqued our curiosity about this family and the ancestry of their progenitor, Sylvanus. The Pipes family in Missouri is fairly well documented in the years after 1810 as William's brothers George and James and their father Sylvanus joined them from Kentucky. Many other Pipes family members moved here from Kentucky in the years from 1817 until after the Civil War, including some of the grandsons of John Pipes Jr. To start at the beginning however, we need to attempt an answer to the question of the heritage of Sylvanus Pipes. Sylvanus has been said to be the son of John Pipes Jr. by his first wife Jemima Harriman. After looking at the facts (if anything in genealogy can be said to be factual), we have several indicators that suggest that Sylvanus was in fact a son of John Pipes Sr. and Susannah Hathaway, making him a brother to John Jr. I first noticed the question of his heritage when trying to determine his age. Although we do not have a will or a grave marker at this point, we can determine his age by approximation and by looking at some of the dates associated with other documents such as the ages of his children and census records, marriage bonds, etc. He did not seem to be of the correct age to have been a son of John jr. and Jemima because they were married about 1760.

Gaspar Corte-Real , with two ships, reaches Newfoundland and Labrador (formerly Newfoundland). The next year, with three ships, he explores the Labrador coast. Two of the ships return to Lisbon, but Corte-Real's ship is never seen again.
Miguel Corte-Real , Gaspar's brother, sails towards Newfoundland and Labrador (formerly Newfoundland) with three ships. He and his ship fail to show up at their appointed rendezvous. Another expedition sent out the following year to find the crew returned without any clues of their whereabouts.
Thomas Aubert , a French explorer, sails to the New World in in 1506.
Sebastian Cabot , in two ships, claims that he has made a voyage in search of the Northwest Passage. New evidence suggests that his vessels reached Labrador and entered Hudson Bay.
