Robert Herrick
Robert Herrick was one of England's Cavalier poets. He wrote approximately 1,300 short musical lyrics, which were collected and published in "Hesperides" in 1648. Many of his poems were inspired by the English countryside. To the Virgins, Make Much of Time
Though serious in Herrick's day, this poem is humorous to the modern reader, and it will make your lover smile. And what a way to persuade someone that it's time to take your vows.
Sweet Disorder

A very sensual poem about the erotic appeal of certain garments. Send this poem to your lover along with a note about what you want them to wear tonight. You're sure to have a surprise waiting when you get home.

45. Litany To The Holy Spirit, By Robert Herrick

http://www.poetry-archive.com/h/litany_to_the_holy_spirit.html
LITANY TO THE HOLY SPIRIT by: Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
    N the hour of my distress,
    When temptations me opress,
    And when I my sins confess,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When I lie within my bed,
    Sick in heart and sick in head,
    And with doubts discomforted,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the house doth sigh and weep,
    And the world is drown'd in sleep,
    Yet mine eyes the watch to keep,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the passing bell doth toll,
    And the Furies in a shoal
    Come to fright a parting soul,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the tapers now burn blue,
    And the comforters are few,
    And that number more than true,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the priest his last hath pray'd,
    And I nod to what is said,
    'Cause my speech is now decay'd,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When, God knows, I'm toss'd about
    Either with despair or doubt;
    Yet before the glass be out,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the tempter me pursu'th
    With the sins of all my youth,
    And half damns me with untruth,
    Sweet Spirit, comfort me!
    When the flames and hellish cries
    Fright mine ears and fright mine eyes

UPON THE LOSS OF HIS MISTRESSES by: Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
    HAVE lost, and lately, these
    Many dainty mistresses:
    Stately Julia, prime of all;
    Sappho next, a principal;
    Smooth Anthea, for a skin
    White, and heaven-like crystalline;
    Sweet Electra, and the choice
    Myrrha, for the lute, and voice;
    Next, Corinna, for her wit,
    And the graceful use of it;
    With Perilla; all are gone;
    Only Herrick's left alone
    For to number sorrow by
    Their departures hence, and die.

on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 05:56 PM A sweet disorder in the dress Kindles in clothes a wantonness: A lawn about the shoulders thrown Into a fine distraction An erring lace, which here and there Enthrals the crimson stomacher A cuff neglectful, and thereby Ribbands to flow confusedly A winning wave, deserving note, In the tempestuous petticoat A careless shoe-string, in whose tie I see a wild civility Do more bewitch me than when art Is too precise in every part. The Passionate Shepherd His Love (Christopher Marlowe)
Come live me my love,
we pleasures prove
valleys groves hills fields,
Woods steepy mountain yields
we sit rocks,
Seeing shepherds feed flocks,
shallow rivers falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals
When We Two Parted (George Gordon Lord Byron)
When we two parted
silence tears,
Half broken-hearted sever years, Pale grew thy cheek cold, Colder thy kiss; Truly hour foretold Sorrow
Maundy Thursday (Wilfred Owen)
Between brown hands a server-lad silver cross offered kissed men came up lugubrious sad knelt reluctantly half-prejudiced (And kissing kissed emblem a creed.) Then mourning women knelt; meek mouths had (And kissed Body Christ indeed.) Young children came eager lips glad (These kissed a silver doll immensely bright.) Then I too knelt before acolyte Above crucifix I bent my head: Christ thin cold very dead: yet I bowed yea kissed - my lips did cling (I kissed warm live hand held thing.)

Then be not coy, but use your time;

Made for thy finger fit; To shew by this, That our love is (Or sho'd be) like to it. Close though it be, The joynt is free: So when Love's yoke is on, It must not gall, Or fret at all With hard oppression. But it must play Still either way; And be, too, such a yoke, As not too wide, To over-slide; Or be so strait to choak. So we, who beare, The beame, must reare Our selves to such a height: As that the stay Of either may Create the burden light.
