Cullen Births in Co Dublin
1864-1871 Civil Registration
Ron Taylor
This information comes from records of Civil Registration in Co Dublin, Ireland. It was forwarded by Ron Taylor who runs his own site, Ron Taylor's UK Census Finding Aids and Indexes . Ron's site is an extremely useful resource for anyone who is researching their family history in the United Kingdom. An online search for the occurences of a selected surname was especially interesting since it indicates the locations of the surname throughout the UK. I couldn't possibly describe them all here (stop by and see!) but many indexes besides the census are also available and includes locations in Ireland. If you need help after you've exhausted the resources in the LDS libraries and other standard sources, you need to stop by Ron Taylor's Census Aids and Indexes site!

Chapter I Early Days In 1862 (when I was seven) my father left Bantry, Co. Cork, on being appointed Clerk of Union at Lismore, Co. Waterford. The retiring clerk, J. C. Hennessy, had been promoted to Waterford Union because of a tragedy which afterwards became the plot of a novel. In outline the story ran that the wife of Richard Burke, Clerk of Waterford Union, sickened and died about 1960. Her burial at the family graveyard, Kilsheelan, Co. Tipperary, was attended by the husband, who in apparent sorrow stayed that evening with her sister. Their converse meanwhile was friendly, yet in the"dead waste and middle of the night "the sister thundered at his door, "Get up, you murderer, you poisoned my sister! Get up! Get out!" A dream, according to the whispers of the village, had inspired her. Burke tried to pacify the woman, but the only answer she made was: "Get out of my house! You killed my sister!" Then without giving him time to dress, she bundled him into the street. In his night-shirt Burke made his way to the police-barracks, and was there accommodated till day broke. Then the sister accused him to the police of the murder of his wife, and demanded that the body should be exhumed. This was duly reported to Dublin Castle, but Burke was not arrested. Inquiries, however, were set afoot, and the Government gave permission to open the grave so that an inquest might be held. The husband nonchalantly attended the Coroner's inquiry. He drove to it from Waterford in a hired car, and the driver related that, where a view of the River Suir met his eyes, he declaimed, "Sweet Auburn, loveliest village of the plain," at full length.

Miller's Creek Mining Claims
There are two claims books - Miller's Creek and Sand Creek. I indexed the Miller's Creek claims using Microfilm (MF 114) which is located at the Idaho State History Library and Archives, Boise, Idaho. The original books can be found at the museum in Grangeville, Idaho. Each entry in the following indices includes the man's name, claim name/location, date of his claim, and the page number. Many times a man has more than one claim. In this case I am only listing his last name or first name one time with a list of all the claims he held. There are some names that unfortunately, I was not able to decipher correctly. I've indicated that difficulty with a question mark. If anyone knows what the correct spelling is for these names in question, please contact me. Thank you. Last Name First Location Month Date Year Page # Adam A. http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/management/curator/collection/portraits.htm
The Portrait Collection
The Secretary of the Treasury portraits were first acquired by the Treasury Department in the 1870's. Treasury Secretary John Sherman (1877-1881) standardized the size and format of the portraits at three-quarter length, life size, stipulating that the paintings, "...will be obtained from competent artists for $500." This was a significant commission at the time, and allowed for Treasury to acquire works from prominent and professionally trained artists. This included such eminent portrait painters as George Healy, Eastman Johnson, Philipp de Lazzlo, Theobald Chartran and Pilides Costa. While the present Treasury Secretary portraits are painted from life, many of the earlier portraits were copied from pre-existing portraits and later, photographs. The majority of these copies were made during the late 19 th century when the Treasury Department systematically acquired a likeness of every former Secretary, establishing a complete representation for this high-ranking Cabinet office. The Secretary portraits are displayed throughout the Treasury building's third floor corridors; however, you can enjoy them online by continuing on to the List of Secretaries.
