Seclists.Org Security Mailing List Archive Any hacker will tell you that the latest news and exploits are not found on any web site not even Insecure.Org . No, the cutting edge in security research is and will continue to be the full disclosure mailing lists such as Bugtraq. Here we have provided web archives, updated in real-time, for many of our favorite lists:
Insecure.Org Lists
Nmap Hackers
Moderated list for announcements, patches, and light discussion regarding the Nmap Security Scanner and related projects.

Archived posts About list
Nmap Development Unmoderated technical development forum for debating ideas, patches, and suggestions regarding proposed changes to Nmap and related projects. Current quarter Archived posts About list Other Excellent Security Lists Bugtraq Arguably the most important Internet security list. Vulnerabilities are often announced here first, so check frequently! Current month Archived posts About list Full Disclosure An unmoderated high-traffic forum for disclosure of security information. Fresh vulnerabilities sometimes hit this list many hours before they pass through the Bugtraq moderation queue. The relaxed atmosphere of this quirky list provides some comic relief and certain industry gossip. Unfortunately 80% of the posts are worthless, so finding the gems takes patience.

Nmap Hackers: Whoa! From: Fyodor ( fyodor_at_insecure.org
Date: May 15 2003 Hi Everyone. There is a disturbance in the force! You may recall a
couple weeks ago that MS started recommending Nmap on some of their
web pages. That was strange, but I did not foresee the anomalous omens
that would ensue. Like almost any self-respecting geek, I bought tickets to 'Matrix: Reloaded' several weeks back (no spoilers, I promise). After all, who can resist the combination of philosophical mind games and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) in that tight leather bodysuit? So after waiting an hour in a line snaking out of the theatre to the parking lot, I finally got in to my 10pm Wednesday showing. All was going well until Trinity needed to do some hacking. Oh, no! I was sure we'd see a silly "Hackers"-esque 3D animated "hacking scene". Not so! Trinity is as smart as she is seductive! She whips out

Hackers access Playboy.com's credit card data
NEW YORK (CNN) Computer hackers broke into the Playboy Enterprises' Web site playboy.com gaining access to the credit card numbers of several customers, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. The company's technology team discovered the breach last weekend before the hackers sent threatening e-mails to the company's customers, said Playboy spokeswoman Laura Sigman. Consumers began alerting Playboy about the violation Sunday evening. It was not clear how many customers' credit card numbers had been accessed or if the hackers had used the information, Sigman said. The hacker group, operating under the name "ingreslock 1524," identified the customer's name, credit card number, and the card's expiration date in an e-mail sent to each of the victims. EXTRA INFORMATION Timeline: A 40-year history of hacking In the e-mail message obtained by CNNfn the group said it "did have some very big plans" to use the information so that it would result in "over 10 million dollars worth of fraud claims" made to credit card and insurance companies.

The Revenge of the Hackers
Eric S. Raymond
I wrote the first version of "A Brief History of Hackerdom" in 1996 as a web resource. I had been fascinated by hacker culture as a culture for many years, since long before I edited the first edition of The New Hacker's Dictionary in 1990. By late 1993, many people (including myself) had come to think of me as the hacker culture's tribal historian and resident ethnographer. I was comfortable in that role. At that time, I hadn't the faintest idea that my amateur anthropologizing could itself become a significant catalyst for change. I think nobody was more surprised than I when that happened. But the consequences of that surprise are still reverberating through the hacker culture and the technology and business worlds today. In this essay, I'll recapitulate from my personal point of view the events that immediately led up to the January 1998 "shot heard `round the world" of the open-source revolution. I'll reflect on the remarkable distance we've come since. Then I will tentatively offer some projections into the future.
Beyond Brooks's Law
My first encounter with Linux came in late 1993, via the pioneering Yggdrasil CD-ROM distribution. By that time, I had already been involved in the hacker culture for fifteen years. My earliest experiences had been with the primitive ARPAnet of the late 1970s; I was even briefly a tourist on the ITS machines. I had already been writing free software and posting it to Usenet before the Free Software Foundation was launched in 1984, and was one of the FSF's first contributors. I had just published the second edition of

Reporter's notebook: Hackers are all business at annual congress
January 4, 2000
Web posted at: 9:46 a.m. EST (1446 GMT) by Douglas F. Gray From... (IDG) While the rest of Germany relaxed and celebrated the holidays, 1,400 members of the hacking community got down to business as Hamburg's Chaos Computer Club held its 16th annual Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin last week. But it wasn't computer business as usual more like a strange mix between Comdex and a concert by industrial music band KMFDM. In a gray convention center in Berlin, CCC's annual congress started off in the mornings with the light sounds of trance music over the public address system, closing up in the evenings with some of the crowd wandering out and many others sitting awake until the wee hours of the morning, kept up by a diet of Jolt ("America's Intensive Cola!") and beer.
