Casanova's Narrative
It is not easy to divide Casanova's narrative works into different genres (novel, novela corta , short story), partly because she often published and republished works in various formats. For example, her first novel, El doctor Wolski was published as a full novel when it first appeared in 1894. In 1897, it was serialised in the Madrid periodical Revista Contemporanea , and in 1920, it appeared in the popular series La Novela Corta . Its final appearance was once again as a full novel, as Volume II of Casanova's complete works. What follows here, then, is a chronological list of her narrative texts without regard to genre. Where a previously-published work reappeared under a new title, I have indicated this in the text, and I have also included translations, with a brief note about translator and original title. I have followed the convention of italicizing titles of works that were published alone, but leaving in roman titles that appeared in journals or weekly series. As far as I know, this is the most comprehensive bibliography in existence, but it is by no means fully complete. Casanova gave an interview in 1925 in which she claimed to have submitted more than 15

Administrative Information
Acquisition Information: The collection of correspondence and manuscripts of William Dean Howells and his family began in 1937 when the Harvard College Library purchased an important group of letters to William Dean Howells from Miss Mildred Howells and her brother Mr. John Mead Howells. The remaining papers have been presented to The Library by Miss Howells and her brother in small lots over the years from 1938 to the present. In this inventory the distinction between manuscripts acquired by purchase in 1937 and the later gifts has been made clear by cataloguing the two groups separately within each "collection." The accession numbers for the gifts appear with the item. In the cases where interfiling of gift and purchase was deemed appropriate, the old catalogue number "800.20" listed with the item indicates a manuscript acquired by purchase.
