Generation No. 1
J OSEPH W ILLIAM " P ETER" G ARDNER, S R. was born March 23, 1810 in Tennessee , and died September 13, 1869 in Sandies Creek, Texas . He married M ARTHA A NNE S TACY February 16, 1838 in Louisiana , daughter of A LEXANDER S TACY and R EBECCA H ATHCOCK . She was born June 10, 1822 in Alabama , and died February 07, 1882 in Bigfoot, Frio County, TX
Notes for J OSEPH W ILLIAM " P ETER" G ARDNER, S R.
"Joseph William Gardner and Martha Anne Stacy were married in Louisiana where she was born (sic), but he probably came from Tennessee. Their first five children were born in Louisiana and according to J. E. Gardner, they came in 1851 to Goliad County then to Atascosa County, before it was organized. They settled in Frio County and ran cattle on the open range clear to the old Cochina on the Nueces. Joe Gardner died in about 1865 near the close of the war. She lived until 1882."
The Gardners, Elsie Gardner Gove, 1959
(Note: Martha Anne was born in Alabama according to the most credible information, and they came about the end of 1853 or early 1854 to Atascosa County. See below.)
