Her fondest dream is for Horace to be made Head of Chambers, a position held for many years by her late father, C. H. Wystan. Their only meeting point, besides their home at #29 Froxbury Court in the Gloucester Road, seems to be their son Nicholas . Poetry
He that hath OXFORD seen, for Beauty Grace,
And Healthiness, ne'er saw a better place.
If God himself on earth abode would make,
He Oxford, sure, would for His dwelling take.
Anon Coy city, that doth swathe thy summer self
In willow lines and elmy avenue,
Each winter comes, and brings some hidden pelf,
Buttress or Cross or gable out to view!
I'm nuts on sport, whatever it is, I'm keen on the
boat-rice dye,
When I tikes my third ter Putney Bridge
and it's fust-class all the wye.
There's some as changes and chops about, but
mine's no turncoat gime-
I've allus bin Orxfud Collidge myself,

O in these quadrangles where Wisdom honours herself Does the original stone merely echo that praise Shallowly, or utter a bland hymn of comfort,

Prelude
Between the Pedestals of Night and Morning
Between red death and radiant desire
With not one sound of triumph or of warning
Stands the great sentry on the Bridge of Fire.
O transient soul, thy thought with dreams adorning,
Cast down the laurel, and unstring the lyre:
the wheels of Time are turning, turning, turning,
The slow stream channels deep and doth not tire.
Gods on their bridge above Whispering lies and love Shall mock your passage down the sunless river Which, rolling all it streams, shall take you, king of dreams, -Unthroned and unapproachable for ever- To were the kings who dreamed of old Whiten in habitations monumental cold. James Elroy Flecker, 1884-1915.
Finally this project comes to an end, and thereby concludes the strangest and most chaotic year in my life. In hindsight, I could have done things in a better time and order, but that just did not happen. I hope I did not strain any goodwill too far and that this paper heals all wounds. I wish to thank Lubbert Dijkhuizen and Bauke Dijkstra for allowing me to perform my graduation project at the crystallography group. It was a very interesting time in which I learned a lot of cool stuff. Finally I wish to thank Joost for his time, effort and endurance and of course for his friendship and the great dinners with Conny.

The Fantasy Fan
REH to Charles D. Hornig, 1 November 1933: "Thanks for the copy of The Fantasy Fan. I found it very interesting, and think it has a good future. Anybody ought to be willing to pay a dollar for the privilege of reading, for a whole year, the works of Lovecraft, Smith, and Derleth. I am glad to see that you announce a poem by Smith in the next issue. He is a poet second to none. I also hope you can persuade Lovecraft to let you use some of his superb verse. Weird poetry possesses an appeal peculiar to itself and the careful use of it raises the quality of any magazine. ¶ I liked very much the department of 'True Ghost Stories' and hope you will continue it. The world is full of unexplained incidents and peculiar circumstances, the logical reasons of which are often so obscure and hidden that they are lent the illusion of the supernatural. ¶ Enclosed find my check for a year's subscription.

us. VOICES OF THE CARAVAN in the distance, singing We make the GoldenJourney to Samarkand. James Elroy Flecker 18841915. home.
http://www.jordanjubilee.com/whytrav.htm
THE GATES OF DAMASCUS Four great gates has the city of Damascus,
And four Grand Wardens, on their spears reclining,
All day long stand like tall stone men
And sleep on the towers when the moon is shining.
This is the song of the East Gate Warden
When he locks the great gate and smokes in his garden. Postern of Fate, the Desert Gate, Disaster's Cavern, Fort of Fear,
The Portal of Bagdad am I, the Doorway of Diarbekir.
The Persian Dawn with new desires may net the flushing mountain spires:
But my gaunt buttress still rejects the suppliance of those mellow fires. Pass not beneath, O Caravan, or pass not singing. Have you heard
That silence where the birds are dead yet something pipeth like a bird?
Pass not beneath! Men say there blows in stony deserts still a rose But with no scarlet to her leaf - and from whose heart no perfume flows. Wilt thou bloom red where she buds pale, thy sister rose? Wilt thou not fail When noonday flashes like a flail? Leave, nightingale, the caravan! Pass then, pass all! "Bagdad!" ye cry, and down the billows of blue sky

Si'? No? Boh?
