Frank Ferlo Jr., 25, of 118 Palmer Ave., and his sister, Lori Newton, 27, of Upper West Thomas Street, are expected to sign a three-year lease for the operation. @Subb.9.Bold:February 11, 1979 @Body.9.:Many area fires have been reported in the last couple days as the frigid subzero weather continues. A blaze ripped through a downtown block and demolished four buildings in Oneida. A smoke detector alerted occupants who escaped a two-story home at 216 N. George St.; damage was caused to the first floor rear apartment of Philip Regan. Heat tape used to keep water pipes warm in the basement had short circuited. Three persons safely fled flames when a kerosene furnace exploded, sending fire shooting through their trailer home on Lee Valley Road. Marc Gleba, one of the occupants, had helped volunteers battle a blaze at the Clemons farm in Holland Patent Monday morning, only to face a fire at his own home today. He helped rescue two others from the burning home. In North Bay, fire destroyed the home of John E. Jackson Jr., East Lake Street, but he and his family escaped unharmed. Firefighters were hampered by the cold and were stalled by a shortage of water. Some firefighters suffered frostbite and smoke inhalation.

(This listing only contains approximately 25-30% of the total buried here. The information was obtained by family researchers of the Annis, Brignola, Carpenter, Crown, Emery, Glover, Morrison, Page, Plummer, Welch and Wormwood families.)
THE OLD GROTON VILLAGE CEMETERY (This page last updated on 31 Mar 2004) is located on Scott Hwy (Hwy 302), about 1/4 mile east of town. This was Groton's main cemetery until the new cemetery behind this one was opened in recent years. It is said to have been consecrated when the body of Captain Jesse Heath, a long time leading citizen of Groton, was buried there is 1838. Because of it's size, it is now divided into 3 sections. Here is a partial list of those buried in this cemetery from the Town's cemetery listing and a cemetery transcription by Bob Murphy on 10 Sep 2001.
