The European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) provides specialist baroque orchestral training to post conservatoire music students from all over Europe, selected
http://www.eubo.org.uk/
The European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) provides specialist baroque orchestral training to post conservatoire music students from all over Europe, selected by auditions , in preparation for concerts and tours in 2003 and 2004 with Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Roy Goodman, Ton Koopman, Andrew Manze, Reinhard Goebel, Paul Goodwin and Fabio Biondi.
In any profession, the move from student to practitioner is always difficult and if you are a talented young baroque musician, difficult might sometimes seem like impossible. The problem is one of experience: to work with a top orchestra you need experience, but you can’t get the experience you need without working with a top orchestra. EUBO bridges this ‘experience gap’.
Every year EUBO invites 100 talented young baroque musicians from across Europe to take part in one of the three-day audition courses. The 29 successful candidates, this year from 13 EU countries with an average age of 25 years, then spend six months together, training, touring and performing throughout Europe and further afield under the world’s leading baroque specialists.
At the end of each year, the students of EUBO move on into the professional world and the whole process from audition to graduation, begins again. EUBO has been so successful in its mission, that there are now former EUBO students in every major professional baroque ensemble in the world, including, for example, The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre, English Concert, Europa Galante, Academy of Ancient Music, La Petite Bande, The King's Consort, Concerto Copenhagen and Les Arts Florissants.

Tins of Bt-11 sweet corn will be labelled as GM products A six-year moratorium on genetically modified food has been lifted by the European Commission.
Commissioners backed a bid by Swiss-based Syngenta to sell Bt-11 sweet corn for human consumption. The decision fell to the Commission after EU governments failed to reach agreement on whether to lift the ban, which had been challenged by the US. Anti-GM campaigners say the decision has little scientific backing and has no support among the people of Europe. "The European Commission is supposed to represent the interests of European citizens and the environment, but has chosen in this case to defend US farmers and narrow agro- business interests," said Greenpeace's Eric Gall. Backers But David Byrne, the EU's commissioner in charge of food safety, says the GM sweet corn has been scientifically assessed as being as safe as any conventional maize. The Commission is acting responsibly based on stringent and clear legislation

128. European Movement (UK)
Allparty movement campaigning for the European Union to become more democratic and effective, and for Britain to play a full role within it.
http://www.euromove.org.uk/
We are Britain's largest pro-European membership organisation and were formed by Sir Winston Churchill in 1948. Today European Movement members across the country campaign in their local communities for Britain to play a leading role in a strong, democratic and reformed Europe and join the single currency. The European Movement is a partner organisation in the Britain in Europe coalition. In the modern world Britain cannot afford to go it alone - we are better off in Europe. Over half of our trade is with Europe, and 3.5 million jobs are directly dependent on this. Outside the euro we are isolated from our closest trading partners putting our trade, foreign investment and, ultimately, jobs at risk. Welcome to the website of the European Movement. The European Movement is crucial to winning the battle for the hearts and minds of the British public. This battle cannot be won by the leaders of the pro-European coalition alone, we need a strong campaigning force of pro-Europeans in every community across the UK making the case for Britain in Europe.
Anyone who wants to play a part in winning the great debate should join the European Movement.

President Bush has vowed to avenge the attacks
Downing Street has warned that "difficult decisions and choices" lie ahead in the battle to catch those responsible for the terror attacks on the US and to prevent further atrocities. Prime Minister Tony Blair's official spokesman was speaking as EU leaders announced plans for an emergency session on Friday in Brussels.
There will be a response and that is likely to lead to difficult decisions and choices - but as in Kosovo this government will remain united
Government spokesman Ahead of that summit, it is understood Mr Blair hopes to fly to America on Thursday to meet President Bush in Washington and to visit New York, although Downing Street has yet to confirm news of the trip. Meanwhile, new Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith says he would put Tory shadow ministers on Cabinet sub-committees handling sensitive security or domestic issues.
