Visual Language Research Bibliography
Introduction
This page is a structured bibliography of papers pertaining to visual language (VL) research. It also contains a brief list of links to other, related resources about visual language research.
The papers in the bibliography were all contributed by their original authors. The papers are: (1) all the IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages (VL) conference papers starting with VL'98, (2) Journal of Visual Language and Computing papers that authors have listed here (authors of all JVLC papers are strongly encouraged to list their papers here), and (3) any additional papers an author chooses to contribute. The classification system used to classify these papers evolved from one originally devised specifically for visual programming language (VPL) research (Margaret Burnett and Marla Baker, "A Classification System for Visual Programming Languages," Journal of Visual Languages and Computing , September 1994, 287-300. There is also a technical report version ). The original classification system has since been expanded to handle some other subareas of VL research.

From the President
At the 1998 Society for Ethnomusicology annual meeting in Bloomington, there were an impressive range of papers dealing with Korean music, both in sessions entirely on Korea and also in sessions organised in non-geographic ways; most of these sessions were well-attended. This was very pleasing to see, and very encouraging for our subject. Following our policy of organising AKMR panels at alternate meetings of SEM, Andrew Killick has submitted abstracts for a panel on emotion and meaning in Korean music at the 1999 Austin meeting, and a number of independent papers have been submitted as well. The year 2000 meeting is part of the mega-conference planned for 1-5 November in Toronto, in conjunction with the American Musicological Society, Society for Music Theory, College Music Society, and several others. It's a chance for AKMR to parade its talent, but the competition for space on the program will be more intense than usual, and we should design our papers to appeal not just to ethnomusicologists, but to a greater range of music scholars. The AKMR Officers would appreciate any input on how we might best deal with the combination of opportunity and chaos that such a mega-meeting brings, so please offer some suggestions.

J.Covered Wagon Train List, circa 1850, compiled circa 1925 Source: The Oregonian Dec 4, 1925. "Covered Wagons Brought Many Settlers Here in 1850" Immigration of Year Notable - Oregon Historical Society Compiles List, Most Complete Ever Published of Pioneers Who Came 75 Years Ago. Oregon gained many new residents in 1850. The territory was becoming better known in the east, since the gold rush to California had created an active market for agricultural product and the Willamette Valley afforded as almost limitless opportunity for production of the staples the gold miners needed. Price was no object in the gold camps and the Oregon pioneers, chiefly agriculturists, were coming in increasing numbers. The following list of the immigration of 1850 to Oregon is from the archives of the Oregon Historical Society and, although not complete, includes most of those who came that year. Additional note: The names were copied in the order they appear in the newspaper article and are not necessarily in alphabetical order. Also, the compiler's copy of this paper had taped crease marks which obliterated some of the names. If there is access to the original article, additions and corrections will be appreciated. - "A" Surnames: Abbott, Mrs. S. F. Abernethy, Alex S.
